REIGNWOOD LPGA CLASSIC

NANKOU, BEIJING, CHINA

SEP 29 - OCT 02

  • Race to the CME Globe: 500 Points
  • Format: 72 holes
  • Purse: $2,100,000
  • Par: 73
  • History:
This is the third year for the event. The event was not played in 2015.
  • Yardage: 6,596

In 2014, at the end of a six+ hour round, Mirim Lee edged out both Caroline Hedwall and Stacy Lewis for her second career win, both coming in the last two and a half months. Lee was able to battle windy conditions and nerves to claim a surprising victory and add to an already incredibly successful rookie season.

About the 4th weakest field of the year by my reckoning.

Yow, that's a weak field. It seems I may be watching more Ryder Cup coverage this week that LPGA coverage.

Does the Asian swing count towards the CME Globe?

If so Ariya is getting very close to Lydia

Sure does. Most likely Ariya will take over from Lydia in the CME race and the POY points by Sunday.

Suprised that Lydia is skipping the tournament, knowing that she could lose POY..

At least you get the choice, Foxtel here are totally butchering the coverage of this one. Round 1 we get 1 hour live, same for round 2, round 3 isn't on at all and the final round is getting a 2 hour slot on TUESDAY morning..

I look forward to the Asian swing as the events are in more user friendly time zones but if there are other events on the LPGA gets shunted very quickly, it wouldn't be so bad if they replayed the coverage overnight sometime so I could tape it but they don't even bother... Sigh..

Lydia doesn't generally do more than 4 weeks in a row and with 8 events in a row she was going to miss something. She only played 5 of the 8 last year, will be interesting to see if she does the same this year particularly if Ariya plays all of them.

Weak field to some. but all of my favs are playing. Sei-Young, Mirim, Ha-Na.

Too true. Statistically it's quite a weak field but there's still a bunch of great players there, just not as many as usual.. :)

Some reason the asian swings are the best events to me. I dont know what it is. Because on paper they suck compared to most of the schedule. Seems like the players are more relaxed and having more fun.

man Na Yeon dead last again. I dont understand why she would keep playing if her back is that bad.

Na Yeon is apparently hugely popular in China, I hope she's not doing more damage than just to her psyche..

She doesn't get to go home after Friday in this one, another WD looming?

She fired her caddie as well.

That isn't exactly unusual for Na Yeon, she's had more caddies than I've had hot dinners....

Pretty impressive showing by the CLPGA players today, 4 of them in the Top 10.

A little local knowledge?

I think she dominated last year, so I can understand the schedule..

Competition is high this year.. Lydia isn't dominating or playing as well like previous year..

Not really, Inbee had a 20 point lead in the POY heading into the Asian swing last year and both the POY and Vare went all the way to the last round in Naples. The competition is just from a different quarter this year..

To be honest with the amount of momentum Ariya has right now it's hard to see Lydia holding her off for the POY but I wont give up just yet, there's plenty of golf to go. :)

For those who don't seem to know here Lydia this year has started her university degree and I imagine their not going to just give it to her because she is some golfing phenom. A serious amount of time and effort will be going into achieving this. I also think perhaps a little greed has set in as she has greatly increased her sponsorship commitments and this could also be effecting her ability to give tournaments her full attention. As we have seen from all the RR #1"s in recent years life at the top is tough and at her age I personally think she has been coping remarkably well but maybe now it's starting to show a little. I look forward to seeing a fully fit Inbee Park back as she had no trouble putting away the top players at the Olympics still hampered by injury so if she makes it back soon she could be a factor in Ariya's dominance at the moment.

Here in N.Z were getting 5 hours of live coverage and full replays everyday on Sky Sports on a dedicated popup channel and Lydia isn't even playing! So yes it sucks Fox is giving you such a raw deal over there.... still the Golf Channel's live coverage is available live online if you know where to find it.

Ariya is looking seriously comfortable already, long way to go but it's hard to see her getting beat.

Ariya, please accept my sincerest apologies, the force of Jinx is strong...

+2 on a day everyone else was ripping it to bits, ouch..

What's with them playing lift, clean and place out there? Doesn't look that wet..??

Hope nobody was recording the "coverage" expecting to watch it tomorrow morning. They're airing a repeat (again) of Live at the Ryder Cup instead.

Yeah thanks for the 45 minutes of coverage Golf Channel. Got to see the last group play 2 holes. I guess watching the opening ceremonies for the 4th time was more important.
