The field this week is only marginally stronger than last week with the inclusion of defending champion and RR #1 Lydia Ko. Lydia won this tournament last year by winning by 9-strokes, the season's largest margin of victory and I expect she will take back the LPGA POY lead again here with Ariya sitting this one out. Good to see someone step in and start the topic last week as I was on my way back from Germany.

I put it down to the stretch of 8 events in a row, there's only a handful of players who will make the complete trek.

This week is better than last week but only by having 28 of the Top 50 vs 18 last week, only 3 Top 10 players in the field this week, last years event had 7, quite a drop off..

Plenty sitting it out,

Ariya Jutanugarn

In Gee Chun

Lexi Thompson

Sei Young Kim

Inbee Park

Stacy Lewis

Bo-Mee Lee

Gerina Piller

Suzann Pettersen

Charley Hull

Jessica Korda

Brittany Lincicome

Angela Stanford

I wonder at what point does Brooke run out of steam, that is a lot of events and quite a few in a row.

I'll give her points for effort for sure, she's one of three that have played all but one event all year and she only missed Thailand because she stayed in Aus to play the RACV Ladies Masters..

Have to wonder if she had taken a few more weeks off here and there would she have been a little sharper at the events she played? Then again she's young..

I wonder at what point does Brooke run out of steam, that is a lot of events and quite a few in a row.

This is basically Brooke's rookie year albeit as it is working out In Gee will win even had Brooke held up taking up membership so at least she is getting to play many different courses this year which will help her decide which ones suit her game for working out a more realistic schedule for next year. So as long as her health stays good it's not doing her any harm at all travel in the world with her sister.

In-Kyung Kim gets rewarded for her win last week by being put into what is the marquee group with Lydia and no doubt home crowd favourite Yani Tseng.

Were getting 4 hours of live coverage each round this week. Not sure why the GC is only covering 3 hours first 2 rounds and it looks like you'll need to watch that mostly via the golf live extra streaming.

Hang in there Argonne I think your in for a treat next week when they play the LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship! but I too wonder what's the reasoning behind skipping good prize money tournaments if you qualify to play these events.

Oddly enough given the Rookie of the Year points aren't as heavily weighted towards top 3 finishes as the POY points are Henderson would currently have a handy lead on IGC for ROY had she had been eligible. She's not so it matters not..

Knock me down with a feather, Foxtel are butchering this one as well! Looks like we'll get a few hours Thursday and Friday and the rest will be on the 'red button' where you can watch in it in full SD glory and can't record it..

Thank you Foxtel for your continued uselessness..

I so look forward to the day that we can pay to watch what we want to watch when we want to watch it from wherever in the world it comes from and the likes of Foxtel no longer hold an axe over our head and force us to pay for all the crap we don't want to watch..

Sigh.. I'll probably be dead by then..

I have gave up on cable/sat completely for lpga. It's just not worth it anymore. I watch the jtbc golf stream every week. I cant understand a word they say but it is by far the best lpga coverage of any channel. I think last week they were the only channel that showed lpga near live.

I thought Lydia was sponsored by Rosemark? She's using a Super Stroke XL today.

Well spotted, wonder what that's about..

Some decent scores out there today given how windy it was, Paula played well and seemed very relaxed in her in interview.

Pretty crappy coverage, I'm all for seeing plenty of Lydia and it was great to see plenty of Inky but how many times did the lead change and we never saw it? Maybe they didn't have many camera's out there but it would have been nice if they'd showed a bit more of the leaders rather than their feature groups. Nothing unusual I guess..

There was a time when I used to love watching Yani play, today not so much. Yani + driver + strong wind was never going to end well..

Na Yeon is struggling again :( Her scoring average over her last five rounds? 77.8. That's just brutal..

Nice start for Ai, here's hoping she can hang in 4 rounds. I'd love to see her regularly contend again.

Great to see Yokomine up there too, would love to see her grab a win on the LPGA.

Money is secondary to these girls. It's much more important that they "show face" and do well in Korea next week. I'm betting they're taking the week off to rest and prepare. A couple of the girls on Instagram were out on the course this week already.

Wow, Paula's average driving distance was 270!

Randomly checked about 20 other players and only found 2 that averaged longer, Ha Na Jang at 277 and Amy Yang at 272.5.

You sure that isn't her packing up and heading home after another poor opening round? She really needs to take time off to get healthy if she's injured. DFL+1 isn't going to cut it.

Sandra Gal got a bit of a shock - double bogey following a triple bogey....!

Yani Tseng an opening 79 unfortunately. She does have these blow-up holes. 9 on the par 5 18th.

I've been looking at the bottom of the board as well as the top!

Sandra Gal with only 5 greens in regulation.

Shoots 80 with 3 birdies.

Her scorecard looked a lot like mine.

Well, except for the 3 birdies.

She's beautiful to watch, though.......... even if she's just eating an ice cream.

I think the injury is a cover story. She might be slightly injured now but she has played this bad for months. Long before a injury was talked about.

'Good to see Ha Na back in form. Hee Young and So Yeon continue thieir solid play of late.

Lydia better get it in gear if she want to defend the trophy.

Hee Young played great, nothing easy about those conditions, not convinced she can keep it up but if she does I'd be happy.

Looks like the weather will continue all weekend so a lot still in this..

So much for the forecast I looked at, it's perfect out there..

Some great scores already today, Jodi Ewart Shadoff a 10 under 62, Alison Lee -8, Minjee -7, a bunch at -6 and Ha Na is threatening to run away with it at -7 through 12 on the day for a -13 total and a 4 shot lead..
