Anyone hear anything about The ACE Club / Eagle Lodge Country Club or Green Valley CC. Both are in Lafayette Hill, PA.

Edit: I can't grammar good.

I really like ACE, but 1) I think you need to be an ACE/Chubb employee (or have some other association with something to become a member there), 2) it's pretty unwalkable, and 3) I don't think there are CC amenities there like a pool and tennis and whatnot. (If they do have those things, I've never laid eyes on them.)

Green Valley is (or was) a historically Jewish club with nice facilities and a good (but not great, imo) course. Don't recall whether or not they have a pool and tennis and whatnot. I think they do, though.

Thanks for the feedback! Do you happen to know if their practice areas are any good and anything about membership fees? I'm looking for a place that I can play on the weekends, practice after work, and won't bankrupt me.

Whoa, reading over the Rolling Green brochure and it looks like the process is similar to the college admissions process.

Fill out an application, get five (five?!) reference letters, and interview with the committee.

Yeah, most of the higher end local clubs have this kind of procedure. Totally sucks if you are a good person who would be a great member but just don't know anyone there or are new to the area. Then again, I am familiar with several mid-tier clubs that technically require sponsors and multiple letters, but if you don't know anyone and are a decent applicant, the membership committee will sponsor you and write the letters. They try to maintain an air of exclusivity and being picky with who they admit but these days they just need the members. The process is a throwback to the days of waiting lists and "if you're not a known member of local society, don't bother." This paragraph is not meant to be specific to Rolling Green as I know little about the club other than the golf course is awesome.

Thanks everyone. I've thought about raising the distance I'm willing to travel, and would love feedback on Huntingdon Valley and Philmont. Philmont has a pretty great deal right now and Huntingdon Valley just looks great. I love Rolling Green but my wife is looking for social activities beYond golf (I.e. Pool) so it's been harder to justify RGGC.

Jersey is the best option for closer courses but if you're willing to drive a bit, check out Indian Valley CC in Telford. You'll have a hard time finding a better practice facility. Great course and a great walk, which I do 100 times a year. Foods great. Great coach with a nice indoor winter set up.

It would be about 30-35 minutes from the city on the weekends. PM me if you would like to play a round there.

I'd avoid Philmont. I was there over the summer and it just felt... like something was off. I could completely foresee them selling the South Course, or at least chunks of it and downsizing to 27. Additionally, I found the course a little boring (maybe just too traditional?) Also, the trip there will get obnoxious from S Philly.

HVCC is fine, but pricey.

Union League/Torresdale is great if you can find a way to get on the list. They totally overhauled the old Frankford/Torresdale course and building. It's not a terrible drive from S Philly there, especially since if you are playing during the day it is largely a reverse commute.

Bala is short, avoid.

Llanerch and Rolling Green are very nice, I think RG might have a slight edge on the course side.

What about Edgemont? I've never been, but I know its in that vicinity.

Edgemont is closed, never opened for the 2016 season.

It's really a shame to drive by there and see that course being over taken.

Edit: I can't spell good either...

As said already, the references don't need to be from existing members. And an interview is very common.
