Retro Big Bertha Set! Added Pictures!

Hi People!

 

I have added a touch of PING to the vintage bag!

 

An Eye2 PW and SW with ZZ Lites and I also have an uncommon Ping Eye2 putter, I will add as well. With the PW at 50.5 and the SW at 57.5 degrees it should be a nice combo with the BB 96 Irons. So that leaves a gap in the bag...And there is a golf shop near me that I think has a Ping Chipo in their used area so may add that to round off my vintage bag. (Also goes with the Ping G15 Driver should I decide to use a modern driver instead of the GBB) Speaking of GBB's, I picked up the furry Callaway original headcovers for the GBB Driver and 4 Wood for $1 each at Play It Again Sports and I have my US flag headcover on my Heavenwood!

 

Now if only my legs worked properly I could go out and play those babies but I do think my set up is now about as 1996 as it can get?

the ping eye 2 putter is surprisingly good. i picked one up this year and putt very well with it. very sim to the pal 2 .

My GBB is the same model with the same loft and is one of the "Ruger Titanium" models. How do you think you would do using that driver and three wood now?

that's the best BB ever made, drill thru hosel, Memphis 10 shaft, cord grip. In the early 90's this model left the tinny, clanky Taylor made in the dust. What a SHAME, USGA should have said, that' it boys, no bigger club heads. The BB was playable, forgiving, smooth sounding and longer than the competition.

What has been your experience of the GBB, Scomac?

I haven't hit a GBB myself, but the design is essentially the same as the BB War bird, just titanium head and puffed out to 253cc. Based on others I am confident they play about the same.

No idea. I didn't bring a golf bag so it's too much of a hassle to bring it back with me on the plane. I'll do that when I come back in February.

 

I do think with the warbird sole the 11 (was there a 12?) degree version could probably work as a "1.5"/mini".

I loved those BB irons...so easy to hit. When they first came out, I was a total hack, but played a demo round with a set. Felt like they were going to take 10 strokes off my game compared to my garage-sale set, but I couldn't afford them at the time.

 

I never liked the GBB fairway woods...heads were just too big.

 

Then there was another legend, the Biggest Big Bertha Driver...
