Ping i200/iBlade Combo - Any reviews?

Has anyone put an i200/iBlade Combo in play?

Looking for some feedback as to how they match-up, as I'm strongly considering going with 4-6 or 7 in the i200 and 7 or 8-PW in the iBlade, both with the PowerSpec option for my next set.

I currently play the iBlades in 3 - PW. I used to play the Ping I e1 irons last year. From 7 to Wedge i don't see a difference at all. The 5 and 6 I am still pretty confident in the iBlades. Its the 3 and 4 irons where i can loose a little confidence, but that is from the rough or off the deck (I love hitting them teed up a little). Its the lack of offset in the longer irons that i really like to look at (i can never get comfortable with the offset in the longer irons when it comes to aiming with the I Series).

The smaller sole of the iBlades just seems to work with my swing and i enjoy going out and playing them. I think a combo set of any I series and S series from Ping will work. Keep in mind the I series is already a "blended" set with the longer irons having more offset then the scoring clubs.

if the iBlades 3 and 4 just don't perform consistently enough for me i will just replace with a hybrid probably.

Long story shot you need to test them out or your self as the sole and turf interaction will be the main difference, but i think any decent ball striker can play the iBlades from 5 through Wedge.

I play i200 4 iron and 5-pw iblades. Powerspec. I love this combination and agree with the poster above. I strongly recommend powerspec because the regular lofts were launching too high for me. Powerspec gives a piercing trajectory and still enough spin.

Is the powerspec simply a standard i200 that has been bent, or a completely different head?

I'm asking because I'm thinking of picking up a regular i200 4-iron to test out. Currently, I'm playing i20's but would like to get a little more distance out of my 4-iron for gapping purposes, and the standard i200 on paper looks like it might fit the bill. However, I might want to have the powerspec 4 when I completely upgrade my irons.

Well, according to some on this forum, it is a standard head that has been bent. So it will decrease the bounce a little. I am a picker and not a digger so it really does not affect me either way. Ping website has it written that :

  • Power Spec: A fitting option for players looking to boost their iron distance or decrease spin to hit a desired trajectory window. The Power Spec is a custom-designed loft configuration that delivers a power boost in a calculated fashion without sacrificing the integrity of the club’s design.

Hi, I am awaiting delivery of the following:

4-6 iron, i200 XP 95 stiff power spec

7-W , iBlade XP 95 stiff power spec

both red dot, 4-9 -1/4", ID8 Aqua grip and D2 swingweight

50 Gilde 2.0 ss wedge bent to 49 XP 95 stiff, red dot and D2 swingweight

54 and 58 Glide 2.0 ES AWT wedge shaft both purple dot, D4 and D6 swingweight

I am 5 handicap currently playing the G irons with Aerotech Steelfiber i95 shafts regular (had XP 95 stiff)

I have a set of i95 steelfibers, stiff, which I will softstep once depending on how I find the XP 95's. For me I have tried the KBS tour 90 and Nippon 950 but I have found the XP 95 and the Steelfiber the best for me.

I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks

A little bit unique, I have the I200s through the 9 iron, and a 46° glide 2.0 and 50° 2.0. I've been contemplating bringing in I blades in the eight and nine iron.

I have been thinking of a mixed set of i200's and S55's. I never got along with the iBlades for some reason. Don't know why, but the S55 work much better for me. They also look a bit more similar in design to the i200's, but without the hydro finish.

I'm thinking about 4-7 in i200 and 7-P in S55. I know there is overlap, but the 7-iron can be switched. Now I just need to pick a set of shafts. I'm even thinking about the Oban or a soft-stepped CTL XS or soft-stepped Modus 105X.
