Driver shaft

Recommended Posts

Just joined! Thanks for any input. Here's my issue. I bought a Titleist 915 last year in a rush. It has the Diamana (S) 70g shaft. I like to play a draw but can't turn this club over to save my life! My old driver is a Cobra Zero Limits with the Aldila Voodoo (S) 62g shaft. Haven't hit it in a year and immediately my draw is back with the Cobra.

Any recommendations for a different shaft that's similar to the Voodoo but newer? I really need to figure this out soon. Thanks!

Depends what the actual problem really is. It could be that it's a bit heavier shaft, it could be that the D+ is a bit stiffer feeling than the voodoo. Or it could be something else completely - such as playing length, swing weight, face angle of the head, lie angle - or a combination of any of those.

You could try another voodoo (or maybe a vs-proto for a bit less expensive experiment) but I wouldn't put any significant money down on a new shaft until you can be a bit more sure what's really causing the problem.

Completely understand what you are saying. Just this past Saturday I was on the range and hitting everything well. I hit about 10 drives (Cobra) and liked the majority of them with the shot shape I prefer. Grabbed my Titleist and couldn't come close to duplicating what I was doing with my cobra. I've played a lot of golf in my life and was as low as a 4 and currently am an 8 which is 3 strokes higher than a year ago. The shaft is the only thing that makes sense to me. Definitely appreciate your input!

It only makes sense to you because that's the only difference you are aware of. Please don't take this the wrong way but in this case what you don't know can hurt you.

What are the playing lengths of the two different drivers?

what are the swing weights?

what are the face angles of the two heads?

what are the lie angles of the two heads?

etc...

Some of those things you can check yourself - some others you might have to take into a club builder to measure properly.

Hitting them side-by-side, can you get any kind of sense of any specific difference in feel between the two?

Have you tried changing the settings on the 915 to make it easier to draw the ball. If not, it may be a way to get through until you find a shaft that better suits you.

I was thinking of the same.

Should check the setting on the 915 and comparing the two driver's neutral setting to see if there is any difference. Maybe the face angle are not the same.
