Awbrey Glen/Widgi/Broken Top/Tetherow

I'm trying to finalize one of the days on our golf trip to Bend in June. For Saturday morning, we are trying to decide between Widgi Creek and Awbrey Glen. For Saturday afternoon, we have Tetherow booked, but are thinking about replacing it with Broken Top.

We're already playing Pronghorn, Crosswater, Juniper, and Alpine Lakes, and will play Brasada if we can get on over there.

So out of the combos listed above, which would you pick? I realize most have a love/hate relationship with Tetherow, but bad breaks and tough greens won't bother us...we're looking for memorable, well-manicured golf courses with good service. I can only get us on Broken Top in the afternoon, and Tetherow is booked in the morning, so I can't bundle those two together.

Appreciate any thoughts you may have!

I'm in the love Tetherow crowd. Broken Top is a course that can be played anywhere, IMO. Haven't played Widgi in years and I believe Awbry Glen is a Bunny Mason design and I generally HATE his courses. Maybe look at Lost Tracks for a cheaper morning round. Fun layout but nothing spectacular with a couple really cute cart girls and bartenders.

Thanks, mallrat. I was thinking about Lost Tracks, but hadn't heard much about it. So you prefer it over Widgi as a cheaper morning option? Sounds like it's got the intangibles leaning in its favor, which is always nice. Is it generally in good shape?

Last time I played it in Sept. it was very playable. Lots of kinda quirky holes that are fun because they give you a ton of option. 1 is a short par 4 that doglegs hard (90*) right. 1 of us hit 5 iron, 1 hit hybrid and I hit 3 wood over the trees and cut the corner.

I view it as a nice fun round before heading to Tetheriw which requires much more attention.

Just got back from playing a few rounds in Bend. Lost Tracks is great and you will like Aspen Lakes as well. Lost tracks is preferred in our group over widgi creek.

Thanks for the feedback. Was Aspen Lakes in good shape? I heard that course conditions were suffering there recently.

No I thought it was in great shape. Fairways and greens seemed just fine to us. It's our favorite course to play in the area.

Did you read my mind or hack my email?!? I actually just got back from a few days. Played Tetherow, Pronghorn, Awbrey Glen and Glaze Meadow at Black Butte. We decided to just go with one course a day and hit the replays to save on some dough. We also had looked at lost tracks, cross water, juniper, widgi.

If you've never played tetherow, do it. It's an interesting round as you're at 4000ft and the ball really flies. One in our group was downwind and hitnhos hybrid about 295 (he lasered to see how far)

I enjoyed playing awbrey glen and some of the back 9 provide amazing scenery. Every course was in great condition and I don't think you'll really go wrong.

I would say don't miss out on tetherow. And I'd play awbrey glen again In a heartbeat - no experience with broken top or widgi though.

Great info- thanks for sharing! We've decided to keep Tetherow in the mix for sure. We're not 100% decided yet, but probably will replace Widgi with Awbrey Glen.

So our lineup is:

Juniper/Aspen Lakes

Widgi or Lost Tracks or Awbrey/Tetherow

Pronghorn Nicklaus/Fazio

Crosswater/Woodlands

Crosswater/Meadow

We're taking advantage of a stay and play the last few days at Sunriver.

Heading out 3 weeks from today. Can't wait!
