Recommend me a New Orleans Course!

jumping on this thread. Going to be in town next week and want to play a round. Looks like English Turn in favored over TPC. Anyone know what the rental set situation is at either course?

I know TPC has a lot of rental clubs. Call ET but they probably have sets. I recommend TPC over ET btw.

Coming to New Orleans area next week. Any courses that are in particularly bad (to avoid) or good shape (to seek out) that anyone has played recently? Thanks!

I assume you've already come down. If not, let me know. I'm a member at Metairie and can get you on if you're interested. It's a 1900s style Seth Reynor course. More fun than City Park South. Less fun than English Turn or TPC.

Not sure if you will see this, but I actually just joined Metairie this month. Definitely not a 4 handicap, but looking to meet some of the younger members.

Played both Bayou Oaks South and TPC last weekend, two rounds each. Both nice tracks but nothing outstanding. TPC is a pretty typical Pete Dye design (some love it, some hate it) and Bayou is wide open and played very long due to the rain they have been getting. Both courses are extremely flat and both have one of my least favorite design features, giant tree in the middle of the fairway for your approach shot on par 5’s. Other than that, the layouts are pretty good. Conditions were slightly better at Bayou Oaks, with the bunkers being in relatively poor condition (compacted dirt, not much sand) at TPC.

If you are in town, they are worth playing, but not what I would consider a golf destination.

I absolutely HATE that tree at Bayou Oaks, what a horrible design thought. Let’s make it a dogleg by leaving one plant in the middle of a field. The one at TPC doesn’t bother me as much because it’s skinny and going for that green in two is out of my range.

Bayou OAKS, they cant cut down an Oak tree unless it is diseased or a danger to the public.

They have plenty room to move that fairway over to the right to see the green from a perfect tee shot.

If you split that fairway you can’t see any of that green. Hug left side yes, right rough yes, dead center no.

It becomes boring,driver-9 iron right of the tree-wedge in or driver-hybrid/fw metal over the tree where you can’t see it land.

Of course I always go for it because I can’t stand layup shots that are less than 150 yards with 60 yard landing areas. Although that is the right play to score.

TPC is worth playing. Bayou Oaks is ok and easiest to get to. If you want to play a good course in a bad neighborhood with iffy conditioning go to Bartholomew. After the first two holes, it’s really good.

Have you played Carter Plantation?

I have not. Looks nice. Most of my stay will be in Baton Rouge, so that may be an option for another round. Was also looking at playing the Island one day.

Bayou Oaks just looks like the best option at this point given I will be dropping the better half off at her sisters while I go out to play. Its much closer to home.

Are these courses walkable? I'd rather walk if they tell me it's going to be path only.

Bayou Oaks isn’t an easy walk, TPC I’m not sure if they will let you walk, carter is walkable. Santa Maria in Baton Rouge is a good option. If you have a day between BR and Nola, LaTour is the best around and walkable for sure.

Morning! In town for a couple days for a meeting and looking for a decent course to play within 30m of MSY on my way out. Ideally would have showers as I will be headed directly to the airport.

Unfortunately ET doesn’t have tee times in the morning of 2/6. Other options? Bayou South? Do they have showers?

Edit: booked TPC. Assuming they have lockerrooms/showers?

I’m going to jump in here too.

Any word lately on conditions?

I’ll be in town next week & hopefully playing 1-2 rounds. English turn looks like no availability Wednesday. Of the other nearby/decent spots any in better shape than the others? Probably TPC, Audubon, or bayou south as recommended earlier in the thread.

Thanks much
