I believe that Bethpage reservations for out-of-staters can now be made 5 days in advance rather than 2.

it's very easy to register now also. You can just email them with their info.

go to the site below and they usually register you within 24 hours

Yup 5 days out and definitely register via e-mail. I got a confirmation in about 2 hours.

Also call back every day a couple times throughout the day, there are plenty of cancellations that lead to open tee times.

Just played the Red and Black as out of staters last weekend with no problem at all.

Definitely agree with you. Black this year has been the best condition I have seen it in recent memory. Red isn't too shabby either and would put it up there with any public course in the NY Metro area.

If I am looking to play Black on a Friday morning as early as possible, what is the better option, walk up/parking lot as a single or register and try to reserve a time? Looks like for the black, out of staters can get a time 2 days in advance, I would guess by then AM times on a Friday are generally booked up?

yes, out of staters can try up to 5 days in advance ... if you show up early on friday ( by 7) , i think you'd def get on some time during the day ... i got on last tuesday with zero trouble when i showed up at 7 ... could've had a 7:50 tt, but chose one at 9 ... friday's will be more crowded, but if you are early, i think you could get on at some pt during the day ...

You may be correct about only 2 for the Black but I still would try 5 days in advance. All that could happen is No.

We played out there a couple of weeks ago and I was able to call 5 days in advance for the BLACK course, too. So, you can try that if you're registered.

think it's a typo in that pdf section that says '2' but is followed by '5' ... i called a week before and clicked for black reservations 7 days out but was told by the system it couldn't take that request yet ... called 2 days later and got a busy signal ...

edit: don't try to hit anything more than an 8 iron out of that primary cut (2-3 inches high) ... ain't gonna work most of the time ...

I was hoping to play bethpage tomorrow but with 1"+ of rain and thunderstorms expected overnight and into the morning what can I expect? Obviously the course will be closed if there are thunderstorms but those are expected to pass by 8 am or so.

Will the course open after thunderstorms clear?

How well does it drain? Do I have to worry about standing water on greens closing the course for a period of time?

Told you that the Black is at its toughest during June into early July before any of it burns out. That's why the US Open was a good choice there - except for the rain.

They will close the course down pretty quickly if there is a lot of rain, especially because the State Open is next week.

I had a tee time last Friday and there were storms all morning. They closed Black Red and Green and opened Blue and Yellow to walking only at 3:30
