Best Lines of the 2017 U.S. Open

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but I don't pay as much attention to the Forum as I used to, so I apologize if it's showed up.

 

I know Paul Azinger is a little polarizing as an announcer, but I like him. In my opinion, he certainly had the 2 best lines I heard all weekend.

 

Faxon:

“You hear Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy use, ‘we.’… Rickie [Fowler] as well. “And You know [Thomas has] got his caddie Jimmy Johnson. He’s got his coach here, Matt Killen. He’s got his dad Mike here. He’s like the soothing guy in his team. And he’s also got Bob Rotella, his sports psychologist, who talks about keeping things simple and in the moment and acceptance".

 

 

Azinger:

“it’s like humility on steroids. I get it. They’ve got their entourage and they’ve got their team and all that. But

we

aren’t hitting 3-woods 299 yards in the air. He is.”

 

2 minutes later:

 

Azinger speaking about Justin Thomas after his 63 on Saturday:

“

We

aren’t losing any sleep tonight. He is. We’ll see what happens.”

I like him as well. Didn't he say at one point when he and Fax were talking about the "we" something to the effect of "last time I checked there was just one name on the trophy."

 

I was also cracking up when they switched over to Randolph on a 70 ft putt and he whipped "I don't think we'd be showing it unless it went in."

Azinger is spot-on with his takes, minus the arrogance of someone like Johnny Miller. Miller usually makes his commentary end up being something about him. I can just imagine what his takes would have been watching Matsuyama on Friday and Justin Thomas on Saturday...

 

I also think Brad Faxon is really, really good.

there were so many from azinger its rediculous..... " straighter than train smoke" " hes stone-crabbing it out there......hes holding on with one claw"....later was explained as a 1 handed finish.... "pros like to hit these pitches on the toe, maybe even out past the grooves so they land dead as a door nail....( hits it to a foot) ..oh great shot lets see the replay ( tape rolls back) oh .... looks like he hit that one out of the middle ( he did..dead center)...." lol

how about all the "brownie points" with the poop colored bucket of something that popped up before the segment.... do they not know whaat a brownie point is ?

My favourite was Patrick Reed's F-bomb after a missed putt picked up loud and clear as day by the mic in the cup :busted_cop:
