Putter fitting

Is it worth it? I know I'm using the right length of a putter, but I'm debating getting fitted for one. Just wondering everyone's experiences and recommendations. Thanks

I have debated it for a while and have watched a few players go though one to see if it's worth it for myself. It is important if your lie angle and length is incorrect for your swing path. I would say go for it! It can only help you in the long run

Go for it. I just had an edel fitting and was surprised for what I was fit into. Although I line it up on target and put the right speed on the ball.

I went the Scotty Cameron Gallery and was fit. It's a bit pricey, but I got a great deal of info out of the fitting.

In my opinion, fittings can be hit or miss. If you get fitted by someone that really knows what they are doing and has the right equipment, they can be valuable. The putter fitting I went though wasn't very helpful at all. Basically they just asked me how does that feel 30-50 times and it wasn't very scientific.

Personally I do not find putter fitting worth it but that might be because I play well to standard.

The best thing a putter fitting did for me was explode the myth that left-eye dominant, right-handed golfers perform better with no offset, center/shafted putters. I have been told that so many times. (I am ambidextrous, write and eat left-handed, play ping-pong and bowl left-handed, throw and play golf right-handed.)

The fitter told me that the left-eye dominant folklore has been around a while and there is zero science to support it. He said if I go look for the science on that, it does not exist. Just one of those things people believe -- though believing it can make you putt better, so for some it is a placebo effect or self-fulfilling prophecy. And some players do indeed putt better with center shafts, but it could be for many reasons.

The fitter checked and I am definitely left-eye dominant. And I then was fit into a full-shaft offset, heel-shafted wide blade with only a sight dot and 1 degree flat because that is what I naturally aim accurately. And I putt well with it.

To me these fittings are useful mainly to learn your specs and the types of putters you aim well, not necessarily to sell you a particular model. With your specs you can try many models and it does help a lot.

Great info! We are alike in being ambidextrous. I play left handed, but strongly considered putting right handed. I'm about 50/50 on everything and used to carry a RH club in my bag in high school.
