Golfing Dallas

I might be headed down to the Dallas area for work training from August 14-25. I'll be in class until 4/5 Monday through Friday but free nights and weekends. I plan on bringing my clubs obviously! What courses should I check out while I'm down there?

I live a couple hours east of Dallas, but have played a few courses there.

My recommendation is Texas Star golf course in Euless. Its a really nice place in great condition and reasonably priced.

Then if you've never played a Tour 18, its a pretty fun experience. Especially when you get to Amen Corner.

If you dont mind a drive to the country in the Piney Woods, I recommend Pine Dunes in Frankston, TX. This course was designed by Jay Morish and is absolutely immaculate pristine condition.

They advertise themselves as a resort, but its not what most consider a resort. The pro shop is small and the log cabin cantine is nice enough though.

THe practice area and range are in better shape than almost any course you'll step on to. I play here a couple times a month. Its rated as one of the Top 10 public courses in the state. And Texas is a big place. You'll have to go far and wide to find a better one.

And as a bonus, the carts will almost pop a wheelie. You better hold on when you press the go pedal!

I'm. Not sure where I will be staying. If it helps I work for SimplexGrinnell so I will most likely be staying near their office for training.

And I'll have a rental car, so traveling an hour or two wouldn't be out of the question.

I'd echo the recommendation of Texas Star - it seems to be a favorite of many golfers. If you don't mind the drive a bit out of the city, I'd also strongly recommend Pine Dunes in Frankston. It is a hidden gem that is a great course - just a bit of a trek. Over in Fort Worth, Fossil Creek is a good option - it is one of my favorites in the area. There are a lot of recommendations in the other threads as well.

I have only played Cowboys golf club near the airport and I really enjoyed it.

Now I am a Jets fan so I held no grudges again

I have played these and highly recommend them. All are very good and fun courses to play and are basically in the North Dallas suburbs.

I have not played them but Cowboys, Texas Star, and Tierra Verde all get good reviews. Cowboys is pretty pricey.

I have played Pine Dunes 5-6 times and definitely second the recommendation. I have also play Squaw Valley (they have 2 courses) and like it even better than Pine Dunes. It would be a little further drive than Pine Dunes but I think it would be in the 2 hour or less range SW out of Fort Worth. Another course out that way that gets good reviews is Sugar Tree.
