Gained 40yards with my driver

I can't believe the distance that I've gained with my driver. I rarely get to play anymore since having my son (he's 2.5yrs old) and I live in Canada where the golf season is super short. I got out last week and had an incredible round. I was nailing the ball and noticed my drives were consistently about 40 yards longer than last summer.

What do I credit it to?

I've been working out at home for the past 6months, on an almost daily basis and my legs have never been as strong as they are now. It's amazing how great I feel and I'm so happy I was able to translate my hard work into results on the course, which was the ultimate goal.

Any one else trying to gain more yardage on the course?

Yeah, I finally decided to get serious about swing and swing speed this year. Went from 220 yard drives to 305 yard drives. Probably about 15 mph more on driver. Unusual, I admit. I've always been strong, though. So, I had that, and decent flexibility. With the irons - I'm hitting them more solid, consistently, and higher. The game is much more fun now.

I'm actually on a quest to lose 40 yards of distance this year. I have social anxiety and don't like the attention long drives attract.

It feels so good to hit a long drive and comes with the pro of being able to carry some trouble but with the potential con of being able to reach new trouble that you were never worried about getting to before. Have to plan certain holes a little different now maybe.

When I used to crossfit, I ended up doing a lot more lower body work then I previously did in the past (mostly cardio and upper body stuff). This included a ton of box jumps, air squats, squats with weights, and dead lifts. I didn't get 40 extra yards but I was able to hit it farther than I did when I first started crossfit (it was more like another 7-10 yards)

Wow if you can't believe it, that doesn't leave much wiggle room for anybody else....

In all seriosity, how does this new found distance translate into lower scores, or some kind of improved results for you? I mean the hole is the hole, so

accuracy and fewest strokes in getting the ball into it are not dependent on length of initial slams, otherwise, all the long drive contest winners would be the tour champions continually.

So when you mentioned translating your hard work into results, you went back to talking about gaining yardage. Are you thinking about going for the long drive contest tour, or focusing also on the entire game of golf which includes accuracy, shot placement with consistency?

This isn't new but well done for discovering it, extra muscle power and the ability to harness it is definitely good!

To be fair, the more lower body stuff I work the longer my drives get too.....but there will be a payoff/trade off point when you begin to lose flexibility. I played rugby for a lot of years so attribute power to that.....but I do still have 2-3 leg days a week along with a very heavy back day all focussing on strength and power.

I'm 5'8" so don't get the benefit of a long swing arc, all my power has to come from being muscular......to that effect I'm 85kg and can squat 160, deadlift 190 and bench 130, big compound movements are key IMO and it does keep rising

Would probably get even more out of it if I did Olympic lifts instead of strength but I hate them.

Can I hit a 300 yard drive? Yes!

Best is 360 ( 50-60 of that was run as it was the middle of summer) however I'm not bothered about low scores, I just like the smash the ball :dntknw: similar to liking to drive a muscle car.....I'm not doing it for top end speed, just the fun of it and the noise

Lessons have helped a lot too though.....power and technique need to go hand in hand! Would suggest grabbing a few of those to get the most out of the workout gains
