KBS Tour V 110 to Modus 105

Just curious if anyones made the move. I'm a longtime KBS Tour and now Tour V user but with the tip bending issues and Nippon having a lighter weight Modus shaft now available, I'm thinking of switching. Also wouldn't mind more of a mid ball flight which I think I could get from the Modus. I play the 110s in stiff and would probably go with the Modus 105 x softsteppedx2 just to keep the weights similar. Any input is helpful. Yes I plan to try them with a fitter. Thanks

Be careful what you wish for. I come from a Ping S57, then Ping G25 and then 2013 Ansers, all shafted with KBS Tours. Ball flight was pretty good with my swing.

 

This year, I switched to Mizuno Hot Metals with the Modus 105 S. The HM have juiced lofts already but the ball flight was too high with actual on course. I did not see this in the fitting process. Moon balls and I was losing more percentage of balls right, push or fades. Those juice lofts did nothing to bring down the height. However, they felt great, very, very smooth like a fine scotch. Great looking heads but it just did not work and I want performance over looks.

 

I switched back to my 2012 Ansers and wallah, my distance was back as well as more controlled in my misses. I wanted to try the Modus 120, they would have been more apples to apples with the KBS Tour 120s but I decided not to spend the money with the pulls and rebuild.

 

So, yeah go with the fitter but see it in real life ball flight and take a 7 iron out to course play. Good luck with this :)

no, sorry. i never liked the CFS when I tested them when I had the KBS Tours around. As I recall, CFS seem to be a mid trajectory and not as smooth as KBS.

Nippon makes great shafts. OP, try the Modus 105 straight in first, you might like them?! ;)

I just installed the modus 105 in my ping s55 6,9 iron.

Pulled the cfs shafts! Losing distance..see if these do anything to help tonight.

Have you bent the tour v's?

 

I can't say for sure because I havent pulled them but it concerns me. i've had them for well over a year and recently i'll look up and the ballfight is .. off just a bit and then i start thinking are the tips bent? It has ever since people started posting about it and I've had friends with bent c tapers. also part of the reason why i'm considering modus line. i'm getting conflicting info whether the tour v's bend or not. do you have any experience with them bending at the tip?

I actually had a set bend.4-pw 6 of them were bent(c tapers).sent pics to kbs, they sent me a new set.i then sold them

I've played the ping cfs's in my G25's. I've played KBS shafts previously, and Tour-V's even more recently in my wedges. I switched to the G30's with Nippon Modus 105's stiff a few years back and have never looked back. I can't say enough good things about the Nippon's. I love them. My driver SS is around 105 btw for reference.

 

The Nippons are smoother than most iron/wedge shafts that I've played (have gone to the Modus3 Wedge shaft in wedges). The Nippons fly a bit higher than the CFS's and Tour-V for me, and had a better angle of descent. Tthe Nippons shafts fit me better and are longer than the other two shafts in the same club. When I got fit for my G30's, I tried Nippons, Tour-V's and CFS on an outdoor range. The Nippons have never ballooned on me, have found them easy to flight, and have found them great in wind.

Two totally different shafts. The reports of tips bending (and joint pain after extended use) with the C-tapers is legendary. However, the Tour V's do not possess the same issues. I have been using Tour V's since their introduction and have never had a tip bend problem. Furthermore, with as many balls as I hit, the tendinitis and joint pain have diminished, as well.

but this chart also show the modus 130 being lower launching than the 120s or the 105s and that is not what everyone on the modus thread says. my understanding is the 130s are the highest launching so i'm not sure about the validity of this chart

Note the 105 is same height and higher spin than the 130; the 120 a little lower but more spin than the 130
