West Palm Beach courses?

About every two years my friends and I go down to Jensen Beach, FL from Michigan and we play golf in West Palm everyday day. I've played PGA National, Ibis, Bear Lakes CC, and Trump National. I'm wondering what other solid golf courses are in the area? I am sure there are tons but I want to know where to play from people that live around the area.

The courses at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie are all solid to very good. Dye is my favorite, followed by Wanamaker, Ryder and St. Lucie Trail.

West Palm Beach GC is an excellent cheap-and-cheerful muni, and North Palm Beach CC is nice but on the higher end of the fee scale.

Abacoa is good and open to the public. If you belong to a private club at home your pro can probably get you on Dye Preserve in Jupiter. Hammock Creek in Palm City isnt bad and will be convenient to your location. As others have suggested, PGA in Port St. Lucie is a good option.

Tequesta CC and Turtle Creek (both in Tequesta) are private, but may be accessible with a call from your pro. Tequesta is just North of Jupiter, so pretty convenient.

West Palm CC and North Palm are severely struggling with conditions right now unfortunately....

The Palm beach par 3 is a great par 3 with both 9s on the water. would be fun to play before or after one of your other rounds if your in the area.

It's a no brainer if you're in the area. Affordable and fun with some great views

Was in West Palm Beach during the end of October... Played 3 rounds.

- Abacoa was a tough layout and in decent shape for public track, also had friendly Red tees for the ladies.

- The Breakers (Reese Jones) - my favorite course we played down there. It is "private", but our concierge was able to get us on... Great layout and challenging. Few very pretty par 3's over water.. It hosted the first stage of Q-School earlier in the month.

- PGA National (Champions) - challenging layout and often found trouble where I could. Unfortunately, it was cart path only when we played, but the Bear Trap was everything I thought it would be...

Good luck!

Was at West Palm this week and the conditions are probably the worst I've seen there. Hardly any grass on the fairways, sand taking over most of the course, hard to get any sort of decent lie in the fairway. Too bad because I really like the layout but the conditions really took away from the enjoyment.

you play anywhere else while down there? conditions on other courses?

I live in Jupiter so have played many of the area courses. For conditioning Abacoa in Jupiter is consistently the best. As good or better greens than some of the privates, and fairways very good typically as well. Downside is it gets very pricey in season, peak rates are more than $100 but they do have twilight deals.

North Palm is usually good too, although I’d put it a step below Abacoa.

Interesting. My wife likes NPBCC more because of the elevation changes but I hate the greens there. Abacoa to me is nearly as good a layout and putting seems more of a true roll to me at least. Range is much nicer too.

I've played the Champions at PGA National twice and its always been cart path only. I think they do that because the tour plays on it.

I'll be back in Jupiter in a few weeks. I spend a week or so with my Uncle around the first of the year. Abacoa is a my "home" course when I'm in the area. It is pricey for a public, but worth it. best greens I've played in South Florida, including any private courses I've been able to get on. I like Hammock creek up in Stuart/Palm City. It is very inexpensive and I enjoy the Carolina style course. the staff there is always very friendly. I usually hit Lost Lake in Hobe Sound for a 36 hole day. It is usually in good shape and entertaining. As others indicated, a drive north to PGA village in St. Lucie is worth it. I don't always have access to a car for the whole day, so I usually stay closer to Jupiter/West Palm area. I thought the three 9's at Okaheelee(sp?) weren't all that bad for a cheaper public track.

for the locals, Do you really think I can get on the DYE reserve with a call from my pro at home? any other private courses that would let me play with a call from my pro? I'll be a single. I've played Admirals Cove a couple times. It was great. I'm hoping to get out there again.

what is the status on the old presidential club? I think it is Banyan Cay resort now. Is that public? is the new course open for business?

thanks! looking forward to my trip!

was in palm beach this past weekend. Banyan Cay definitely fully private now. I was unable to get on thru calls but i overheard a few guys who were from Baltusrol who did play it this weekend.

abacoa - in solid condition like it always is. played my worst round in about 3 years but didn't detract from the conditions. fair warning, the maintenance crew gives zero f's when working so they wont really move if youre about to hit.

palm beach national - good but not great condition. solid track and staff is super nice. interested ending with 3 short 4 pars in a row. wouldnt go out of my way to play again.

atlantis country club - played here on a recommendation from someone i played with at palm beach national saying that the conditions there were much better than madison green. recommendation was solid and the conditions were really good, equal to abacoa. definitely somewhere i would play again.

palm beach par 3 - everyone always says how cool this place is and how its a must go but when i ask locals, no one has ever played. expensive for what it is ($50 with cart whereas atlantis was $55 with cart). really good views and solid conditions but nothing special. worth playing once and then never going back.

Sandhill crane is a fun course. Conditions are always pretty good with nice greens. The course is only around 6300 yards but plays longer because of because a few holes take driver out of your hands. They are building a new clubhouse right now so restroom facilities are a trailer.

One caveat... It has the dumbest par 5 in the county. Hole number 12 is a z shaped hole that is normally a 5 iron tee shot, 8 iron lay up, and wedge to the green for me from the tips. Lastly, the range is a water range with floater balls if that matters to you.
