MD/DC/VA Golfers - This One Goes to Eleven

I don't know if it ever really gets to "fraud", but it is phony.

So NLU is saying that popular people on social media - famous or otherwise - may not be 100% truthful. Wouldn't most people assume this is true to some degree?

Honest question, would it stop you (not you-you) from following someone you enjoyed following? And I guess the follow up - or maybe the first question would be - are you going to check on every person you read to first see how many "real" followers they have before you follow them?

So, first and foremost, I basically give two craps about this.

But, the thing is. . .if it doesn't mean anything, why list follower counts at all?

Followers on social media indicates a certain amount of "authority" and followers beget followers. So, if I'm a noob going to twitter and I search for "popular golf accounts", I'm getting shown Stina Sternberg before I'm getting shown Shane Bacon.

If that's not based on actual popularity, or comes from the quality of their content, then that's a disservice to followers.

Also, a lot of people are in the business of monetizing their followers. So, Tron is essentially competing for the same eyeballs Stina Sternberg is. So I can see why this really bothers people where social media is a big part of their business model.

So, no, I'm not going to follow or unfollow someone because they have a bunch of fake followers, but I can see how it bothers people who come by their followers honestly.

Good point.

Or if Twitter is actually worried about it, why not natively build the audit function into the follower # listing. I would think if they own the audit algorithims, they could pretty easily build a way to present that a particular person has 100 followers and X% are deemed "real".

It's the swing, not the club, but what do you think the chances are TW shows up to his next event with the old M2 in the bag?

Honestly I would have thought he showed up with it Saturday morning.

Too many twists for Tiger with that M3. He needs square face technology. We should market that.

Social media is a business, for both the company and other users. We are the product.

None of this is surprising or frustrating if you just think about that any time you read things. People try to game the system to make money.

Alternative theory: Im just bitter because I dont have enough social media friends.

Even the bots shy away from you. Sad!

Great article about JB taking over 4 minutes to lay up on #18.

http://golfweek.com/2018/01/28/ponte-vedra-we-have-a-problem-j-b-holmes-takes-410-to-lay-up-as-millions-watch-wait/

I think CBS will probably call to Ponte Vedra today, how'd you like to be on the other end of that call at PGA HQ?

Did anyone understand what that drill was the Noren kept doing? Was it to fire his arms out front of his body?

Noren has been grinding on that unique PSR for quite some time. Definitely paying special attention to leg action and transitional hand path. He was so into it a few months ago it was pretty goofy. He’d rehearse that move very exaggeratedly like 12 times before getting over the ball.

That's the tech going into the M5-M13. They'll just keep twisting the face every year until it's back to where it was originally.

Anyone else here have issues misaligning their shoulders and feet? Any drills you use to fix that?

Finding my shoulders are almost always open in relation to my lower body.

after the NW round and eagle pointing out how right i'm aimed, i've found my shoulders are pointed left of target and my feet right of target. I have no idea other than lining up with a mirror how to get the right feel for this in the setup. golf is stupid

EPP has a mirror in one of the stalls usually, so that's nice?

Finding my shoulders are almost always open in relation to my lower body.

When I met with O'B for a fitting last year, he pointed out that I do this. He told me "feel like your left shoulder is closer to the ball than your right shoulder at address."

It was a very weird feeling at first -- you're going to feel so closed -- but after hitting some nice shots from that position, it was a pretty easy change to trust and apply. I don't think that too many things in the "set up" are fundamental, but there are certain things that really make taking the club back and bringing it through easier, and that's one of those things.

When you set up open, I think that it's too easy to get the right shoulder working "around" instead of getting the right shoulder working down towards the ball. That's a flaw I fall back into. You might do it too. I think it's correlated with hitting blocks and hooks.

I like that.

Open shoulders was giving me a big out-to-in path and I was hitting lots of slices and pulls at the beginning. Fixed it by just feeling like I was totally closed from the waist up but the "left shoulder closer to the ball than the right" is a better thought than "so closed you can barely see your target if you turn your head to look at it"

I also try dropping my right shoulder a couple of inches, for me it has a weird way of also closing down my left shoulder a bit. I don't think I'm ever completely square but as I've worked on a little bit of shoulder tilt it seems to also be squaring me up **

Got a brief review of Streamsong Black from my Dad. Said it was a really fun course. Biggest greens he's ever played. He liked it better than the other two at Streamsong. Tons of sand, which I don't think it much different than the Red and Blue courses. Said the biggest difference was the greens. He said he had some putts that reminded him of the Punchbowl at Bandon.

Here's his 60 footer for bird on one hole. Said he two-putted from here. Need to teach him to take pictures in landscape instead of portrait.

PQ's second favorite golfer just won for the first time since 2016. Must be all the roids he's taking.

I don't know which announcer it was but I think on the last playoff hole last night he went into his eyes-closed routine and one of the announcers said "You don't really have to close your eyes Jason, its dark enough out here." I lol'd.

more from saturday:

- we treated the new #1 (old #10 and our 10th hole of the day) like a rabid dog. MTN, GolferDrew and I smashed drives, then all stuck iron approaches within 15 feet. pretty cool on a 440 yard par 4. MTN converted the bird (net eagle), and i curled in the par (net bird), golferdrew tapped in for an easy par. top.h put the pin back in expert fashion.

- topper's being a bit hard on himself with his game. i thought he hit some very good shots, and had a few excellent putts and up and downs. the long game swing is like the opposite of what he does around the green. smooth as silk close in, a bit stilted and contrived with the longer clubs. take the tempo of your short game to your iron game/long game, and methinks you'll improve dramatically.

- golferdrew can flat out play. watch out for this guy. great move from the top. so much center face contact. controlled his traj. short game was rusty as was all of ours, on those greens. he's going to be taking some people's $$$ pretty soon.

- MTN was as heckle and jyde all day. love the footwork. bottom of the swing was just a bit off sometimes. putting and short game could use some work, but hey. last time he picked up his clubs was in november. obviously not as insane as most of us on here when it comes to winter golf. good to have him out, matt's a funny guy to have in a group. doesn't take himself too serious, which is nice.

- i was ok. 8 pars and a bird. lots of unforced errors tho. new bstone wedge was for 50-80 yards, sucked close in and on full shots. still need to get acclimated. the cobra ones were up and down. i hit two beautiful 5is that would be on my highlight reel for 2018 if i had made the follow up putts. also a few fatties that were unforgiveable. i might need to sneak in a round with a regulation size set and see if this is just winter rust or if it's club induced. i feel like i should be acclimated by now.

note: golferdrew is looking to play feb10. suggestions on a location? anyone else interested? looks like a cold snap is coming in here for a few days.

That was funny.

The Tron/NLU accounts were busting on other stuff. . .like when we would first hear, "the TV cameras make it look lighter than it is" and "I bet he couldn't even see that land" and "twlight rate" jokes.

They do say that stuff every tournament, but it's also kind of important information to tell the viewer that what we're seeing isn't what it looks like for the players.

I think its super important - especially if its a first time viewer. Over the last putts they did that bit where they went from one camera shot to another one that was sort of the "lens closed" look. Its really interesting to see IMO.

Its the one thing I hate about NLU lately. They seem to be trying. so. damn. hard. to be cool by pointing out what everyone else is doing wrong (ok I guess that's the very definition of social media for most people).
