Calf tear

Just tore my calf muscle yesterday. Anybody else go through this? Sucks because I love fall golf and waiting to see the ortho on Monday

Tore mine about this time last year. No surgery but it took a long time to heal. Painful for about a month then slowly got better. Could swing a club but was painful. Not a pleasant experience. I make sure now I really stretch it good before I do any physical activity.

By tear do you mean a complete rupture or are you saying a strain like Cajunmike is referring to?

 

Different levels. Complete rupture is a process. Mild strain isn’t too bad and with proper care should be back in no time ;)

Did you tear your Gastroc/Soleus muscle or tear your Achilles Tendon? Can you point your toes or feel a large bulge on the back of your ankle?

 

The former can be treated with ice, NSAIDS, compression and rest for 2-4 weeks. If your muscle swells a lot you may need to wear a compression sock for awhile even after the pain goes away.

 

Partial or complete rupture of the Achilles can be life altering. It is generally treated with cast immobilization and/or surgery.

Saw my ortho yesterday and it is a grade 2 soleus tear. Not too serious but will still be out for at least two months - boot for at least 4 weeks.

Funny thing is I have no issues putting if I don't straighten my leg !

Maybe will work on my putting...

I usually stretch and am in good shape but was tired out from a virus and walking 18 the previous day. A quick game of catch with my son was the culprit.

Wake up call as I am nearing 50.

Tore my calf muscles pretty bad after a squash game, it started with my right calf, I couldn't straighten my leg for a week, had to use crutches for a good while after it happened and had regular physio on it. I was chipping and putting after about 10 weeks but full swings only much later... then my left calf bugged out from me favoring it but thankfully it wasn't as bad as the right.

 

I didn't play squash for over a year because of that damn tear, I am back to playing now but I have to wear compression socks otherwise I can't run.

Glad it wasn't terribly serious. You can probably speed that up a bit if your Ortho sends you for some PT in a couple of weeks.

I was on a golf trip this summer and we were doing alot of drinking. Myself and one of my buddies started horsing around and pushing each other, and next thing I know I feel an explosion in my right calf. I thought someone blasted me with a golf ball or golf club. I even turned around and said "who just hit me", when i saw everyones reaction I realized it was in my leg. Pain started setitng in and I was done. My leg swole up, could see the blood/bruising in my calf for weeks. Alot of ice, compression socks, and laser therapy treatments and it's 95% back, but it took a solid 2 months. Powered through most of the year. Played one of my league rounds almost on 1 leg. I was terrified when it happen that it was my Achillies.

Exactly the same feeling - pop and the feeling that I got hit by s golf ball.

I tore this smaller Soleus muscle and will be off the boot in a week. Still no golf or anything for at least another month. Just bought more Costco KSig balls and three putters dealing with not playing golf ⛳️

I think I strained mine a few years back, but I had that same sensation.... I was playing around with my daughter who was then, 3. I was running at her and jumping over her and the last time I did it, I landed and it felt like someone used a giant rubber band and snapped the back of my calf. I thought I was shot or something... Tried to walk it off and about 3 steps later it got so tight and painful I could barely put my toes on the ground... Had no money at the time, no insurance, had to just wrap it tight and stay off it... I did use crutches and in about 3 weeks I was good to go again but it was probably the most pain I have ever been in...

Getting back into squash took me forever... Now I can only play if I have my compression socks on otherwise there's no way I can run or change direction.

Almost 2.5 months and I'm stepping on the course this a Friday!!

I seriously took my time and the weather helped in not rushing it. Funny thing is I had do much time to get stuff done around the house..
