Ping G5 or Mizuno MX-900?

Need new "game improvement" irons

I am an 18 handicapper (but getting better) and in need of new irons. I like the Ping G5 but heard the Mizuno MX-900 may be a good bet (love the look). Any thoughts or has anyone hit the Mizuno's?

go with the 900, awesome club, long irons easy as hell to hit, short irons almost look like blades. they are also forged...I was definately impressed when i hit them.

I had a chance to hit the mizunos and they were great... plus they are forged and felt like butter... I am considering getting them for my nephew IF his grades get better....

Got a shot of the MX-900. Look really great for such a foriving club and very soft feel. Haven't tried the G5 yet.

The 900's are super forgiving. The ball goes high and straight. I normally would like a littel thinner top line at address, but I think I could get used to it. I'm definately considering picking up a set for next year.

If you like the look of the ping irons better think about a combo set of G5/I5´s.

I sold a set (3-5 G5; 6-SW I5) to a customer which he received 3 weeks ago an he is extremely happy with this setup.

Thomas, is there such a type of "setup" you could do with the Mizunos? The MX-900s look sweet.

The MX 900 already are something like a combo set. If you have the opportunity to hit some short irons try them. If you do not hit them too high then go with these sticks. They are excellent.

Seriously - both irons are great high capper irons, but if you can play forged, then DO IT

 

Mizzie MX-900 would be my choice, but I'm a dedicated Mizuno Iron Ho :smilie_cally: ;) :smilie_cally: :smilie_cally:

Having hit both and also own the Ben Hogan Apex Edge I would say the G5's are more forgiving .They are point and shoot acurate and it was an easy choice for me.Go to a Ping fitting Pro Shop that has both and DEMO.

Maple Hill Discount golf in Michigan is selling them for $799 new. the clubs have only been out for a month. they are already discounting them!

The feedback has been great and much appreciated. I will try the mizuno's at the demo days in a week and then try the G5's. Mizuno's just look so nice!

i buy them for their playing abilities, but i am a crazy ho! i have played pings for years, but have strayed from time to time. i guess i just hit the pings better. that being said, the pings will be worth more if i decide to trade or sell them.

From what i have heard the Slingshot is the most forgiving iron. However, when i hit the G2 and G5 i couldnt stop the smile growing on my face :D they were just so easy to hit. The choice that i made was to go with the i5 especially if you are going to do alot of golf. As far as having your clubs custom fit with lie, length, grip and shaft Ping are hard to beat.

The set up i have now, i am very happy with but it is by no means as easy to hit as the g5 due to my choice of set up.

I hit the MX-900 on the range, they are so easy to hit. It is hard to hit a bad shot, plus they feel great.

Thanks. I bought the MX-900's and am happy I did. Hit 2 large buckets today and what a club. I had Callaway Fusions and the Mizuno's are a much better feeling club. I notice that off centered shots are straight and still give me some good distance. Don't get me wrong, the Fusions are a great club but to me, the MX-900's are more control and feel.
