Hi,

We are coming over to Nashville from Scotland in early September for a guys golfing vacation. Looking for some recommendations for golf courses in and around Nashville area, happy to travel up to about an hour for right course. We are hoping to play at least 6 rounds so would appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks,

Charlie.

Here's a few courses you will need to play:

Greystone in Dickson, TN

Gaylord Opryland

Old Fort in Murfreesboro

Henry Horton is south of town but a really nice track for a state park

Cobra LTD X

Titleist TSi2 3W

PXG Hybrid 17/22

Srixon ZX5 5 iron

Srixon ZX7  6-PW

Ping Glide Wedges 2.0 50/54/58

If you're willing to rent a car and drive a little bit, I would definitely head east on I-24 one day towards Chattanooga and play Sweeten's Cove and Sewanee. Both are 9 hole tracks that are just fantastic. Very close to each other. You could play 36 in a day with two loops on each from different tees in September.

If you come to Nashville from Scotland and don't make it down to Sweetens, you've really missed out. Sewanee is good too, but Sweetens is better.

Second Sweetens, definitely needs to be a priority Sewanee is on the way and the drive isn't that bad, could definitely play both in a day even with travel to/from Nash. Also Greystone is very good, but an hour the other way. Not a huge fan of Opry. Really enjoy Windtree for a casual round as well.

It can very between 60 degrees to 90 degrees. usually its perfect golfing weather..

I would recommend 3 courses that are must: Play both courses at the Hermitage ( Generals Retreat & Presidents Reserve) both are phenomenal. Presidents is better of the 2.. Also play Gaylord Springs. Give me a PM when close to time and I know a few members at Private Courses out in Franklin & Brentwood area that would be willing to show you around their home courses.

Thanks everybody for your recommendations. We have booked Gaylord Sprind, Hermitage both President's reserve and General retreat, Sweeten Cove, Greystone and just waiting to book Old Fort, all based on all your great responses.

Have anybody played any of these courses in last couple of months and has any update on their condition.

Thanks again.

Old Fort has some sandy thin greens in spots on the back 9 last night. Not the entire green but certainly not what I am accustom to out there

Played one this weekend you may want to try. I love Sweetens. But literally 20 min North towards Nashville is Suwannee Golf club up on the mountain. It too is 9 holes.

I love to play 9 at Sweetens (since that’s all they have) and the. Drive and play the “back nine” , if you will, at Suwannee. Fantastic greens. Hardly gets any play and some beautiful views.

Just a thought.

Also, all of the courses you are playing are my favs in the area. All are in good shape this year overall bc of all the rain we got in early summer. I would expect all to be perfect come fall.

Exactly what I was going to recommend when I saw Sweeten's by itself. Walk Sweeten's in the morning then drive up on the mountain and walk Suwannee. It is a Gil Hanse redesign and is a very fun course. Despite being on a mountain top it is very walkable and has a great "old-school" feel to it. I like the Sweetens-am and Suwannee-pm combo as on top of the mountain it is 8*F cooler than down in the bottom and being up high there is a decent breeze most of the time.

Suwannee is in Georgia.

Yeah, damn. Couldn’t remember and was totally too lazy to look up.

You hacky sack? And braid your beard hair?

That was my stereotype of that school growing up.

Interesting. There is nothing about that place that screams "party school."

A couple thousand well-off kids with nowhere to go and nothing else to do...you figure it out. :D

The stereotypical Sewanee kid is very smart, somewhat outdoorsy, and knows where to score a bag at any time of day.

Why do most like Presidents over Generals Retreat. I liked them both, but Generals just has that old school feel to it. Either way have fun OP.

Presidents just looks and feel nicer. Generals is one step down, imo.

I played Bear Trace at Tim's Ford yesterday and it's worth the trip. Excellent conditions currently. Far better than the Bear Trace at Harrison Bay.
