Ghost Tape??

I read a post yesterday that mentioned Ghost Tape which is marketed to biz to protect demo clubs.

 

I have a new set of black finish irons and I was thinking of getting this tape for practice sessions to protect face/sole finish,.

 

Anyone have experience with this tape? How does it effect ball flight?

That’s what I’d think but on their site they say tape reduces spin on Driver

Can produce the same effect as a flyer lie. Launch is increased and spin decreases, both due to a loss in friction.

I just want to practice with it to reduce wear on the finish. Since the range balls are awful and I can’t really tell distances anyway I can’t see much of a downside.

 

Although the flier lies might give me a false sense of speed....

Hang them up in your living room and look at them. Buy another set to hit balls with.

Any foreign substance on the face of the golf club changes the dynamics of the ball striking. Using protective material to practice = no practice at all.

A golf club is not a piece of family heirloom. it's a tool. A sign of wear is part of the experience the golfer had gone through with the equipment.

 

Besides, no one will look at how shinning your golf clubs are, the ball flight tells the story. If you're thinking of resale value,,,, the modern golf club is one of the worst in return of investment. I would not spend additional money to try to protect the shinning of your irons. Unless you're already thinking of resell it tomorrow.

I just ordered one roll of the hybrid size Ghost Tape. I'm hoping it's similar to Putter Tape so I can use it on the soles of my custom putters. BB

Just a heads up. I used Ghost Tape on three soles and the tape ruined an applied finish on all three. The heads were ALBZ and Copper. I ended up having to use acetone to remove the residue as nothing else seemed to work.

Guys, I personally really like the looks as it is and also like the performance. It’s not for resale or for others. I want to protect finish for me.

I'd purchase a 7 iron and build to the same specs. Keep your full set for rounds played.

 

I should add, I do use ghost tape on my all clubs with painted crown man and have never had an issue.

Makes sense on a soft oil based finish or a finish that will tarnish with the elements. This tape is going too seal the taped area. I would be surprised if this would occur on a plated surface. Question will be will it damage a heat cured Cerekote finish...hummmm. My guess I doubt it. BB

Hard to find just a 7 or 8 iron. It’s for a Mizuno MP-15 with a special finish that I *think* was done by Mizuno but maybe not. MP-15 is out of production, can’t buy from them. Might buy a used set but I also wrote tourspec golf who sold them originally to learn more about the finish.

 

MP-15 ... great club, btw.
