Deal on Cobra Girls’ Set

My daughter had outgrown her first USKids set and I was on the verge of ordering a new set for her. I happened to be at our local Dick’s this afternoon and found a 53” set for ages 9-12 marked down from the list price of $219 to $159. It then had a silver sticker on it taking the price down 50% of the lowest marked price, so I walked out of there with it for $80.

It is a Lexi Thompson branded seven piece set—driver, fairway wood, hybrid, 7 iron, 9 iron, sand wedge, and putter. It includes a bag and rain cover. Pretty good deal—I’m thinking they are closing out last year’s model. Something to check out if you are looking for a newer set for your daughter!

That is the problem with OEM Junior clubs. They are sized for an age group. It is more important to be sized to the correct height. I don't know anything about the Cobra junior clubs, but I do know that most OEM junior sets are toys. Ping Moxie, Taylormade, Callaway, etc. all make garbage junior clubs.

That is the problem with OEM Junior clubs. They are sized for an age group. It is more important to be sized to the correct height. I don't know anything about the Cobra junior clubs, but I do know that most OEM junior sets are toys. Ping Moxie, Taylormade, Callaway, etc. all make garbage junior clubs.

The Cobra Jr set uses fiberglass shafts that play horrible. I believe the 2017 set uses graphite, but still has the same length specs.The club lengths are geared for a range of 9-12, so they don't actually fit anyone properly in that whole age range. Driver sized for a 12 yo, SW and putter for 9, and everything else is sized in between. But for $80, I may grab a set for my 6 yo and adjust the length to USK specs. She doesn't need anything more than this for her first year learning anyway.

This set meets the requirements my daughter has (as she has no interest in playing competitively). They are a pretty color, they have Lexi Thompson’s name on them, and they are the same brand Rickie Fowler plays. All I was looking for is something that she’ll have on those half-dozen occasions this spring and summer when she decides she wants to play a few holes with her Dad. If the bug strikes her at some point I can always upgrade, but for what we need today, the price was right!

They are a pretty color, they have Lexi Thompson's name on them, and they are the same brand Rickie Fowler plays. All I was looking for is something that she'll have on those half-dozen occasions this spring and summer when she decides she wants to play a few holes with her Dad. If the bug strikes her at some point I can always upgrade, but for what we need today, the price was right!

That's a very healthy attitude to have. We're not used to that around here.

Amen to that. Nothing wrong with that at all. Just wanted to make sure your expectations were met in case you needed to return them. We started with a Top Flite then Cobra set before venturing into the stuff we have now. My son isn't really competitive, but practices/plays 3-4 times week just because he loves it. For that kind of workload I wanted him to have good equipment.

For my daughter, I will be tracking down one of these sets, because who knows if she will play 1 time or a 100. Girls are tough, but that's a whole different topic.

We had this set to start with when my daughter first started. It was great for what it was a great introduction to golf. About three months into it I bought US kids clubs set and saw her improve dramatically.

Good Luck. My daughter started with a used Wilson Ladies set. Had no idea what the heck she was doing when she started. Was 12 years old and 5'7" when she first picked up a club. Got the bug real quick and next thing you know she is playing college golf. Appreciate and have fun with the experience if she catches the bug.

Just to follow up--I took my daughter out for nine holes on Sunday with the new Cobra set, and we had a great time. She hit some good shots and is enthusiastic about going back out again sometime soon (she even confessed to being open to taking some lessons from one of our instructors, who is a Top 50 PGA teaching professional for kids). Mission accomplished!

My daughter has dabbled in golf but mainly focuses on gymnastics (3 nights per week). Last night she asked if we could go out and play this week!!! When we go it's usually me and my daughter versus mom and son in a scramble format. She and I are undefeated.

Those are some great stories. I am trying to get my little girl interested, but she has been a bit finicky lately. About to turn 6 but she has so much power for a short 5 yo and just has natural athleticism that my son doesn't have, I am hoping she will go with it. Even a moderately good female here can get noticed and probably get a partial scholarship. The gap in boys vs girls talent in the Carolina's is pretty wide. I just ordered a 42" USK set from the outlet site and hoping her spending some daddy time on the course just the two of us will be the trick. In all likelihood, she will probably end up playing something more fast paced like tennis or soccer. She is pretty active and golf may get boring for her.
