Flynn Golf Shaft Selection

Our son (12yo, 5'3", SS avg 75 mph) has out grown his starter set of Callaway XJs We have decided on Flynn clubs, mainly for the reputation and he likes the fact he can pick his colors on shafts and grips. He already has the Cobra F7 Junior driver.

 

Should we stick with the Flynn Velocity in all the clubs (FW, Hybrid, 5-SW) or get the Junior steel shafts in the Wedges? Any thought on the True Temper versus KBS 560 shafts?

I would think with a 12yo that is 5'3" you would want steel shafts in all irons and wedges.

Agree, steel shafts would be my choice at that age but that SS seems a bit low for 12. He might actually benefit from some good graphite shafts. I would give them a call and give them your kids size and swing speed and let them put you in the right setup. I bet they would recommend the firm flex graphite shafts and then he can pick his own color combo.

 

My son just turned 11 and he swings about that speed and we have 58g graphite shafts in irons. Flynn has 56g listed so should workout alright.

Just email Mike or give him and call and he can give you some good advice on what to do. He does this for a living so I promise you that he has dealt with this situation before. My nephew is 12 but is smaller framed (4'9' and 75 lbs). My brother bought him a set of the new Cobra Forged Tec Black irons and had them cut down to US Kids Specs. He went with the Recoil graphite shaft because he didn't think his son was strong enough to handle the weight of a steel shaft. He got the clubs this week and he is glad that he chose graphite. Now if his son was as big as yours, he may be able to go with the KBS junior shaft. Mike can help you with all of that.

I have heard that some of the more elite junior golfers are moving over to the Project X Evenflow Max Carry in their woods from the Recoil 440 / 450 series.

US Kids Fitting Analysis puts him in a 63" Tour Series Set with a steel shaft. If he were going with adult clubs I would definitely put him in a ladies or senior flex graphite shaft.

Cool. Ive never seen this chart. That would have saved me some time.

 

After talking to his coach and watching him on the launch monitor, we will be getting the KBS shafts.
