Looking for putting drills to simulate tournament pressure.

Less so now in the days of Paypal and e-transfers.

Hard one for me was always make 10 in a row from a spot 6 foot or more. Make all 10 before you can leave. The last 8th, 9th and 10th putts always had more pressure

 

When I was at my best, I forced myself to run 100 in a row or start over from 3, 4, and 5 feet. Minimum of 300 putts. Some times it takes an hour, sometimes it takes all day. But believe me when I say there is some noticeable anxiety once you reach the 90 mark. I know its not what everyone wants to hear but forcing yourself to stick with it is the same mental process you have to have when the money/tournament is on the line.

I could imagine you were quite the competent putter performing that type of practice. I don't know if I have the desire to do 100 in a row, maybe 20 or so. I can imagine, like you say, when you get up to around 80 or 90 the pressure is really on. Interesting technique.

 

EDIT: another technique that works to complement practice green techniques, is to actually continue to play tournament golf and put yourself in those tough conditions. Sort of funny, and a bit humiliating, each person in our foursome the last tournament I played in four putted. You see it on TV from the pros and you'll see it from every golfer out there, it's just something that happens every now and then.
