In case anyone didn't know, TheButteryCut is the poster formerly known as Whisper. Really good dude. Played in the TurKey Shoot this past year. Future Hiver.

Totally forgot to post the change!

I did so just to match my IG. Plus the fact that the name "Whisper" can give off subtle undertones oft misinterpreted. Plus the frequency of my hitting cuts is much greater than me ever truly whispering.

Meh.

Nowhere I definitely want to play badly enough to take days off for. If I'm really jonesing hard to play a tournament, maybe I'll go play at Eaglemore to try and qualify for Chevy Chase.

Just sent in the paperwork for my Eaglemore membership, so for the first time in my life, I can claim home course knowledge. Though proclaiming this may bite me in the a** come qualifier time...

Piney Branch, do not like.

Mountain Branch. Really?

I could do Woodmore, I guess, if I hear it's in nice shape and all that. I could manage to squeeze in a practice round with some thread-bros probably.

We'll see. We'll also see how I'm playing. This year might be more interested in playing in a qual if I really think I can qual. Last year, it was more for the experience.

Congrats!

Home course advantage can be huge, especially in a count-em-up stroke play format. You build up enough data points to really be able to refine strategy and club selection. You get to figuring out exactly what clubs to hit, and where to aim off the tee. Pick up the subtle stuff like how long approaches and tee shots into par 3s play in relation to the yardage. A couple miscues in those areas can add up to multiple strokes on the scorecard for somebody coming in without the knowledge.

Thanks! Really looking forward to it.

I can attest to the course knowledge looking back on my play the last couple years in the MSGA events. Depending on the green speed as well there. Don't know if you have made it over there yet, buth there are some tiers, valleys, and slopes that bring hell to pay if you don't hit the right sector. If they are rolling, I could see them getting very interesting...

Abb just explained how playing a course more than once gives you more knowledge of the course.

I've gone back and forth on that from time to time. I played REALLY WELL at Cattail last year, sight unseen (expect for 2 or 3 shots) and I've had plenty of other "first time" rounds at some courses. Did I ever tell you guys about the time I shot 74 at Bethpage Black?

Sometimes just pointing it down the middle and hitting the putt you see is the best strategy.

Sometimes not.

This has been my experience too and I couldn't articulate why. I've played some great rounds on some tough courses in the last couple years - sight unseen.
