Help: New Irons or Reshaft (UL51 vs. TS3 54)

_conejunkie

Recommended Posts

My junior, who is currently 51" tall, is currently gaming USKG UL-51s (adult: driver, fairway wood, and hybrid with Flynn shafts).

- driver distance with roll: ~150 yards

I need some advice on whether or not a reshaft to Flynn's are needed or worth it (basically if the K flex shafts or the iron heads are hurting trajectory, accuracy, etc.); miss is a hook.

For some added content:

- Demo'd USKG TS3 54" 7i and carry distance was 68 yards.

- did not compare the current irons

Purchasing options:

6 Flynn shafts for 6-SW + Winn Dri-Trac (to increase swingweight and probably drop the 8" of lead tape on each of the irons) [total cost after install and shipping: ~$210]

OR

USKG TS3 54" 8 club set (5-SW) [total cost: ~400]

OR

community recommendation

Thanks.

If your junior is 51" tall, they should be playing TS51 (or UL51) in US Kids specs. Here's a used set in their outlet section for $349.

https://www.uskidsgolf.com/shop/ts51-v10b-10-club-stand-set-all-graphite-black-white-red-bag

10-Club Stand Set includes:

  • V10 clubhead model (10% lighter than adult)
  • Graphite shaft Release 440 Driver
  • Graphite shaft 3 wood and 4 hybrid
  • Graphite shaft 5 iron, 6 iron, 7 iron, 8 iron, 9 iron, PW and SW
  • Black/White/Red Dual Strap Stand Bag

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

My son is 7, 52.5” now. Switched from UL48 to TS3-51 at beginning of season. Before pulling the trigger I ordered an 8 iron in bothe the Flynn and TS3 to test- honestly it was hard to tell because the jump in weigh(for both) was a jump from Uk48’s and would take a while. Went with the USKG TS3 and have been very happy.

Go back and look at Darter’s post on the new US Kids TS3 clubs. His daughter plays Flynn irons and he bought a TS3 8iron to demo. He did the track man numbers on both and the TS3 was definitely better. I have always liked Flynn’s stuff better than US Kids but the new TS3 stuff seems to be legit. Flynn is putting new stuff out next year and I’m sure it will be comparable to the TS3 but for now go with the TS3.

Read his before posting actually. Definitely no question on US Kids vs Flynn stuff.

just wasn't sure if the UL heads or the K flex shafts were hindering ability.

If I could get away with reshafting, then I can save 50% as I'll build to 54" specs.).

If I don't have to replace right now then I'd end up waiting until my junior reaches 54" and end up picking up the TS3s.

hope that helps on additional detail.

was there a big difference as far as trajectory, ball flight height, accuracy, etc. in the ULs vs the TS3s?

Trajectory with TS3 was lower at first, which was concerning, BUT keep in mind , for my son at least, it took time (too much time and I started to doubt the switch honestly) to adjust to the added weight and swing the TS3 with consistency. We won’t have so much of a learning curve going forward because weight difference should be more minimal sizing up , but that jump in weight from UL48 to TS3 51 took a while to get used to. Once he got the hang of it though I will say that there was all around improvement. It’s very hard to compare side by side two different club sizes (ie 48” vs. 51”)- undoubtedly they will always hit better their current club because they are used to it.

$190 means different things to different people (believe me, it’s a lot to me!), but this whole junior golf thing ain’t cheap and if you consider all the golf expenses you will have in the course of 18 months or so your kid will be playing this new set, having paid $190 more on the front end for (what you may believe is) superior equipment would be worth it to me. Wouldn’t want to be half way through the year and doubting my decision.

Here is my take. Ts3 will launch higher than Flynn will spin more (more stopping power) She played her first full round with the full iron set. Best ball striking I've seen from her. If he ready to upgrade no doubt ts3 would be the set for me of course he needs the swing speed to handle them. I wouldn't go to an older set of tour series either. The new set has the a lot better technology in them. I jumped on with ts3 and it wasn't even time to upgrade that'show good they were to me. US Kids has the fund to invest in technology for kids.

If your junior is closer to 54" tall, here is a nice used TS54 set on eBay for $249 + $40 shipping.

Yeah I would avoid this. Looks awful. Perhaps its the wrong link.

eBay showed you their "we found something similar" listing because the original listing ended (sold in this case). Here's a link to the original listing (scroll down). Anyway that was a very good looking TS54 set that sold.
