Renting Hickories in Scotland

I've tried to do some brief digging on here, but haven't found a ton of info. Just wondering if any of you have rented hickory sets while over in Scotland, and where the best place to do it would be? Do they also provide older balls? For reference, we'll be spending our time in Inverness, Aberdeen, and St. Andrews. Any info would be appreciated. Cheers!

Possibly at Auchterlonies St Andrews .. not sure.. and there is a " all hickory club " somewhere in the area with rentals .. I will see if I can find it and keep posted !

Yeah now you mention it, I remember the shop as well!! ( they make "new" hickory sets and also had PXG :-) )

I played with rented hickories at Old Musselburough, one of the early Open Championship courses. I don't think they allowed you to take the clubs anywhere else. There's another course that caters to hickory enthusiasts not far from St Andrews:

what kind of golf balls? ... i think it'd be neat to buy a set of pre-2000 clubs (or whatever the date needs to be) ... persimmon heads on everything, balata ball (not necessarily balata - old pinnacle?) and play a course that has changed the least ... looking at muirfield's yardage, that might be a contender ...

They recommended , and included, some modern "soft" golf balls. You might check in the classic club section here for some better advice.

St. Andrews Golf Company makes some replicas of the older golf balls such as the featherie, guttie percha, mesh lattice, or even a wooden ball. I'll be renting a set of hickories next summer when I play Old Musselburgh and will use one of these or something similar. Sorta defeats the purpose of using hickory clubs IMO if you're playing with a Pro V1 haha.
