Hyper X Driver Pics, X Fairway and FT-i Squareway
Callaway metal heads are moving again. They will keep thier FT-i and FT-5. In an effort to lead the all-titanium segment as well as bring more technology back to fairway woods they are launching Hyper X Driver and X Fairway.

All we have Pics of right now are the Hyper X. I will see if I can get the X-Fairway and the Ft-i Squareway tomarrow or soon.

Hyper X Driver

Hyperbolic Face Technology is the strategic parabolic shaping of wall thicknesses dramatically improves impact efficiency and produces the largest effective hitting area of any all-titanium driver Callaway Golf has ever made. Generates higher ball speeds across the entire face.

Launches- 2/15/2008
Lofts available -
Std: RH 9°, 10°, 11°; LH 10°, 11°
Tour: RH 8.5°, 9.5°, 10.5°; LH 9.5°

X Fairway

The slightly larger head shape raises the Moment of Inertia (MOI) and is designed to appeal to a wider range of players. The slightly deeper face increases the effective hitting area and provides confidence at address. Modified sole design helps provide proper alignment at address.

Launch date - 2/15/2008
Lofts available -
Std: RH 3, 5, 7; LH 3, 5
Tour: RH Tour 13 & 15; LH Tour 15

FT-i Squareway

Callaway is saying the FT-i is the longest, most forgiving fairway wood ever created by them. The Squareway inertial design positions discretionary weight to the extreme corners of the clubhead very similar to the FT-i driver, raising the MOI for unparalleled resistance to twisting, providing straighter and more forgiving shots hit over a wide area of the face.

Fusion Technology - Multi-material construction combines a stainless steel face, sole and body with a lightweight, carbon composite crown to move weight resulting in better stability and distance. The 3 wood is 208 cc in volume.

Release date - 3/15/2008
Lofts available -
RH 3,5,7 LH 3,5

I am just not feeling the Hyper X for some reason. The new FT FW should be solid. I am highly interested in trying the Squareway wood that they are releasing. The pics I have seen of it look very promising.

All in all, I think Callaway has a pretty good line coming out, but the irons and drivers leave a little something to be desired.

I like the clean looks of the tour. Should sound/feel better than the FT-5.

Squareway....funny name.

So the Hyper X Driver is not a player's replacement for the FT-5 Tour???

Yet another GolfWRX scoop.....nice job, guys! :)

I'm willing to give the FT-i fairway a try. But I don't know if it's the longest fairway wood in the Callaway line-up. The X-Hot Fairway can hit it a long, long way....especially with that 44 inch shaft.

I also just got that info from my inside sales guy at Callaway. He said that all the products are great and they have a new set of irons. They are new Big Bertha Irons that have a 3,4,5 "Ibrid" (not quite a hybrid and not quite an Iron) and 6-pw a normal iron. He said that this product line is one of the best he has seen at Callaway. Edit: I just found the other threads with the irons and wedge pics.

I have just test drove the Hyper X today courtesy of my friend.

The club was a non-tour version 10* fitted with a black Graman TP540 S shaft. At first glance, the clubhead sat bigger than my D2 although both are 460cc. I was not really accustomed to its shape too as I have been playing my D2 for a while. It was similar to the FT-5 in shape so I guess current FT-5 users will feel alrite.

We played 18 holes with it. I would hit a couple of drives once every while comparing my good drive with my D2 with the Hyper X. Here are my comments:

The sound is quite tinny. Not unlike Cally's previous offerings. This one sounded a little lower in tone compared to the X460 but not overly different.

Very Forgiving. MOI is definitely up there with other OEM's latest offerings. However, similar to other high MOI drivers, I could not distinguish good contact from bad becos of that.

Distance itself, comparable to my D2. No big jump in extra yards. I guess OEMs have reached a limit as to how they can give a driver a distance-edge.

Trajactory-wise with the Graman shaft, it gave me a high ball flight. I pump the ball high anyhow so its not any higher than what I usually hit. However, it seemed to hit its apogee faster then flatten out the rest of the flight.

Shaping the shots were not as easy as my D2. This club went relatively straight even when I tried to hit my regular draw.

I think I would need to try out the tour version to see if there was any difference with the non-tour. I would say this club is very very good for players seeking a game improvement driver. However, if you are a strong driver of the ball who likes to work it both ways, it might not be for you. If you are a crooked driver, you can grab this and fire away by all means.

Hope the above review helps.

I can't wait to give the Squareway a try. It might help me since I'm pretty inconsistent with mine... hook, slice, push, pull you name it, I've done it with my 3 wood. I'm also considering the purchase of an FT-i driver at some point. would be nice for those tight courses.

Saw some more of the "new" product today. Evidently when they come with the LCG FT-is they will drop the .5 loft Tour models and the LCGs will replace those in .5 lofts. They also had a 25th anniversary FT-i that had the 25 anniversary paint job silver and black as well as a silver and black 25 anniversary FT-i headcover. I think those are due out sometime in November. It sounded like the muscle back irons aren't dead because I overheard someone say the RC was in Japan discussing some changes to new forged molds---so maybe as some have said January intro. I also heard something about a yellow fuji shaft with an odd criss cross pattern that is very expensive that may be part of the LCG FT-i offering. They hyper X looked good but was a little loud for my tastes. Both fairways were excellent---the new X and the FT long hosel. The shape of the FT long hosel reminded me of a size and shape somewhere between a fairway and hybrid.
Looks like more hyper hype since there is no new technology that will improve your drives. Just another reshape and new graphics. :haha:

If you really want to improve, you gotta work on the swing.
I disagree, The Hyper X Technology is crazy good. The Hyperbolic X-Sole Plate!?!?!?! Prevents a player from losing ball speed on off center hits...thats a lot of players out there. Plus the face is Steel, its going to be a better sounding & feeling club. This is going to a suit a lot of players who do not want to be in Big Bertha Woods and Drivers.

I really hope you believe there is technology out there that helps people hit the ball better...
Or is there maby someone out there who allready had a chance to hit this beauty.
:haha:
The 08 Cally stuff is out in Australia and I have a 10 degree Hyper X driver,IMO the new technology in the Hyper X really works,it is the most stable feeling driver at impact I've ever hit and I've hit a few. This driver just wants to go straight and long too.
Mine is on Ebay though as I like the launch I'm getting from my G10 10.5 a little better, close thing tho. :)

I've come close to buying a G10 a couple of times, but I'm curious to see how the Hyper X performs. Looking forward to demoing once it goes public in the states.
