HOF - what are the latest qualifications?

CASE IN POINT - Fred Couples

Like his game and loved watching him play but he should NOT be in the Hall.

 

He is about 54th on the pga tour win list. And there are 160 in the hall of fame. How does he not fit in? Masters winner. 62 professional wins.

 

Hes rightfully in the HOF

 

The 160 in the HOF are not all tour players so that is a misleading "stat" in this context to begin with.

 

Wasn't the basic criteria set to be 3 majors and/or 2 majors plus well into double digit wins?

 

I don't know anybody who doesn't enjoy "Boom Boom", however he absolutely is the poster-child for the World Golf HOF, shifting admissions from GREAT to GOOD. in this new paradigm, Justin Thomas is already qualified, and Rickie Fowler has a shot, previously Justin Thomas would be considered about halfway there, and Rickie wouldn't even get ballot consideration.

 

In my opinion, the HOF has tried to get relevant by exhibiting extreme recency bias. Along the way it continues to be rudderless and misses opportunities to tell and preserve the History of the game.

 

The only moving inductions that immediately come to mind for me were Charlie Sifford, Greg Norman, Annika, Lorena and Peter Allis. They need to do a far better job integrating the LPGA into the mix.

 

I mean seriously- if we are to go GLOBAL IMPACT (as in WORLD HOF)....how in the HECK have they not made a MUCH, MUCH bigger deal out of SE RI PAK?

 

Annika had an obviously more sustained period of excellence, but her impact on the GOLF in general and women's game in particular is absolutely DWARFED by what Se Ri's has been.

 

I mean seriously - the Solheim cup is like watching the "D" league (developmental).

 

Hell, they had to invent a multi-team event (with only 4 players per country) rather than a straight-up team match (12 Korean women vs. 12 US) to hide talent imbalance in plain site. Sorry, back on topic- HOF is disapointing.
