Wedge testing: MD4 vs SM7 vs Glide 2.0 (with data & updates)

Might be my last update to this thread for a while. Got fit today over at True Spec... Ended up in Glide 3.0 which is very fitting considering I gamed the 2.0s most of 2019.

The T20s I had felt really nice but they look significantly larger than most of the other wedges out there. I'll post some data from the fitting once it gets sent to me. Ended up in S400 shafts but it was a close call vs modus 125 wedge. Basically came down to S400 launching lower and giving me more consistent numbers. The set up feels like an absolute dream... Very soft and hitting 95-100 yards shots with the 56* felt pretty effortless. Going 50-54-58 to maintain gapping, maybe could see myself bending to 59 or 60 if I want a little more height on my bunker shots.

I hit every wedge available except sm8 so if you guys have questions please feel free to leave them here or PM me. Again, I'm not a scratch player so I'm not the best model to go off of but I've pretty tried most wedges that have come out recently. Thx!

The glides are muchhhhh more compact from address and mix in a lot better into bladed iron sets than the T20s.

I'm honesty really surprised Mizuno shaped these these way they did. Feel is lovely and they performed well for me but after hitting glides, mg2, Jaws and so on... It's clear the Mizuno are the largest footprint.

Hey @Z1ggy16 how do you like the S400's in the Glides? I have the 3.0's and put DG S200's in them but dont know if it is worth the switch because from what I can remember the difference in weight between the S200 and S400 was negligible

Yeah basically from what I understand, it's just weight sorted. The S200 are the "light" shafts and the S400 are the "heavier" ones. There's debate whether or not X100 is somewhere in the middle but from my experience hitting X100, it's a slightly different profile AND weight then S200/400.

The S400's were reeeeallly good in the glides in particular, I'm not sure why. I hit Modus 125 wedge, KBS 610, and KBS Hi rev. I actually got the most spin from the hi rev, but I hated how it felt. I felt like the hi rev I really had to swing firmly whereas with S400, I felt like I could swing more smoothly. Once we really knew the S400 was the best shaft, we went back and tried it in all the heads but I was getting the most consistent numbers with Glide. I don't have exact values because the fitter only sent me and email with the Glide/S400 summary info, but I'd say the runner up with the S400 was probably the MG2. I told the fitter I didn't want rusty grooves though because I worried long term that having rusty grooves would compromise the structure of the grooves since rust is pretty brittle.

I didn’t find the 3.0’s all that small (though their spin production is for real), but the RTX 4’s are everything you want in a traditional blade like package with the spin performance and consistency you want in a scoring club. If you are really crazy about raising your spin numbers get the raws. Not a concern for me so the black finish was the winner given the numerous times I have been blinded by my wedges with a chrome or brushed finish in the Florida Sun.

The finish really works (which is why I imagine every manufacturer is currently creating their own), for me it came down to consistency of performance. 3.0’s are very forgiving, but despite that they also aren’t the most precise. Not that they are bad, there are just a few which are better options for precision. I thought the T20’s were a better version of the Callaway MD series which throws a lot of meat behind the ball. They are buttery soft for a cast club, but for me in every measure the RTX4’s performed how I wanted them to when I needed them to perform in the manner I wanted.

Either way, get fit, we are blessed with a multitude of excellent choices.

Yeah I think with the Glides being slightly more of a hybrid blade/cavity, they are going to have a little more MOI and a COG that's pulled slightly back and down compared to your vokey's of the world. For me... I got fit and they were producing the best launch and overall consistency, and they also felt/sounded the best. I think if maybe I wanted to go back to a darker finish and I also found myself never playing in moist/damp conditions (pretty rare, my current home course is soggy almost year round) then I'd probably go to RTX4, then after that MG2 even though I am still skeptical about the raw face long term.

No, just the regular Hi Toe. I always thought the big foot was aimed toward high caps who rarely open the face and needs tons of bounce because they fat the ball most of the time. Still... it would be good out of thicker rough and really soft sand. Usually don't find myself in those types of lies though... the bunkers around me here tend to be on the firm side.

I think you are right but it has me considering one. I’m a 6.3 HC but i struggle in my area of the country where we have rock hard course conditions in the summer months and soft wet conditions in the spring and winter. I have a hard time finding a wedge that works for me on short chips in both conditions. The wetter conditions get me to dig too much and leave me with inconsistent results where i usually thrive in the harder conditions.

i do generally suck out of bunkers. Weakest part of my game for sure and no where to practice around me with realistic sand. Was thinking the extra bounce would help me in those wetter conditions and out of the sand. The YouTube reviews make it sound like the easiest wedge to hit ever.
