Tommy Armour TA1's . . . Long Term Impressions?

Lately, I've seen more aggressive, promotional pricing on the new Tommy Armour club line. Now that they've been out for a while, what are your impressions of the irons, hybrids, woods or driver? Bang for the buck impressive, disappointed . . . workability, forgiveness, shaft impressions?

Never demoed these, nor am I considering. Just haven't heard any buzz on these.

I bought a set on a lark because I got a great deal on them. I must say I was very pleasantly surprised by how they play. Very solid. The irons are definitely in the game improvement catagory but not obnoxiously so. Moderate off set, slightly thicker top line than I prefer but nothing I can’t live with. The thing that really marks them as game improvement is their fairly wide soles. They’re very long with a medium high flight but no tendency to balloon that I could tell. I didn’t have a problem over drawing them. Hard to judge how much they spin on semi-frozen winter greens. But just from observing the ball flight I don’t anticipate an issue there. If you don’t mind the noticeably wide soles there is no reason you wouldn’t enjoy playing these irons. No comment on the woods or hybrids as I haven’t tried them.

Thanks for the input.

I've read user reviews on the Dicks Sporting Goods site, which seem to be favorable (though I've come to be weary of retailer site reviews). More than one post mentioned the irons and hybrids have a slight draw bias.

I had the irons last year as a fun back up set. I wouldnt call them draw biased. I did hit a light draws with them but I think that was more a function of shaft.

Nice irons, could have easily kept and played them. Performed very well for game improvement iron and offset was reasonable compared to most brands.

They didn't seem particularly draw biased to me.

Did not know Golfworks built them but it makes sense since Dicks owns them. Where is this set available with shafts other than the kbs ?

Was available with several grip options, dynamic gold s300, nippons, kbs tour 95 and recoil. Now thay they are on clearance I dont know if you can special order them anymore. Check in store with Dicks or Golf Galaxy. My guess is no...

Steal for $299.00

I hit some great shots with them. As good as any game improvement iron out there. I had kbs tour 95 stiff in my set.

My options were limited being left handed. I threw together a DSG/GG bag just for fun. Bought the driver, 3 hybrid, irons & putter. Most were on sale. Hybrid was free with purchase of driver. Was looking for the 5 wood & 4 hybrid but don't think they made either in LH. Everything was regular flex as well. I hit for the first time on simulator & was pleasantly surprised. Irons feel decent as well as driver. Clocked one driver swing 116mph & bombed it 300yards. Didn't even notice shaft being whippy at all. All in all they are a great value & solid performers. Hard to see how you can go wrong. Plus if you beat your buddies with this set up you can really give them a hard time. LOL.

Additionally the only Tommy Armour clubs I didn't like were the wedges. Just felt harsh off the face. Would pass on these.

Putter was the Impact Series 3 Mallet. Felt good off the face but also felt light. MGS highly recommended this putter though.

Driver: Callaway Rogue STMaxLS 10.5 Degree

5 Wood: Cobra LTDxLS @ 17.5 Degree

Hybrid: Cobra King OS 3-4 Hybrid @ 20.5 Degree

Hybrid: Cobra Aerojet @ 24 Degree

Irons: Taylormade 2021 P790's 5-AW

Wedge: Taylormade MG3 54 Degree

Wedge: Callaway Sureout 2 @ 60 degree

Putter: PXG Closer

Anyone know where you can get an aftermarket shaft adapter for this driver? Was hoping to get in on the sale as I like the head but not the stock shaft. Love the hybrid as is but would like to put a rouge silver in the head. Any ideas?

Seems like DSG is serious about developing the brand.

The new Atomic irons have got my attention.

Still playing the driver, I like it alot. Very comparable to PING G410 Plus on trackman. I hit both on trackman yesterday. I think the PING was a couple yards further but carry was pretty much the same. TA1 is 2200-2400 spin for me. G410 Plus is 1800-2000.

G410 Plus may eventually end up in my bag, really like the adjustability but TA1 is a great driver as well. Currently it finds a lot of fairways so, it shall stay

Golfworks is selling them on their website now, although they're not in their new catalogue.> @propman said:
