IN HAND PICS: Justin Rose's Custom Axis1 Prototype Putter

Recommended Posts

It really does look cheap. I play a 2015 (16?) Betti SS#2 . It's gorgeous and nothing Ive tried makes me want to put it down..... Except the damn "UGLY AS F#%*!" Axis 1 Ive been messing with at the shop. The damn thing is so ugly...and yet it putts so damn well. I wish they'd find a way to pretty that baby up .....except it would likely cost more than the Betti then.

The putter is kind of cool but it looks cheap. For the record I know it is actually expensive but in these photos it looks cheap.

I love the putter and have been using it since year 1 when the Eagle came out. It is very easy to get over the look when the putts go in. I changed to the Axis-1 Tour Black 1-2 years ago and it is the most beautiful putter I've ever seen.

I never understood why people were so against it... the technology makes too much sense. It tests better than the other putters too... hence Justin switching over.

I'm pretty sure Justin had direct input on the design of the Axis-1 Rose and it was in the works before the odyssey blew up... maybe that's why there is no issue w odyssey. Also, him changing his clubs isn't something that happened over night. It would be foolish to assume he hasn't been working/testing with these companies for years.

(I switch from the Vokey to the Edel wedges and I love them too btw.)

Like everything in golf, if it works for you, game it. I have no problem with anyone's choices of equipment. Just hope it all works out for Rosey.

The Rose prototype is the first Axis 1 putter that I have seen that I haven't immediately recoiled from. That's saying something.

I also think that they are avoiding copyright infringement on the Odyssey #7 by shortening the tynes and rounding all of the edges - similar but less so than the TM Ardmore. The #7 is so angular and distinct, that I think just softening the contours is enough to argue that it is a different design.

Completely agree with this post. Best looking Axis1 I have seen. And by that I mean the least ugly Axis1 I have seen. This is a big improvement.

All the subtle changes plus the completely different hosel, onset and balance are more than enough to qualify as its own design. Rose really believes in the swing characteristics of these putters. Will be interested in following his putting stats.

I give it a month before he's got a another putter in the bag.

Still has it in the bag and had a phenomenal putting round on his way to a -6 under 65 Round 1 lead.

And he's 11th in SG: Putting so far this year so it's working out well for him.

@PLongGolf . I have to agree. I met you a year ago at the PGA superstore in Irvine. I bought an Axis1 tour right out of your bag. You told me I could putt with anything if you recall. However I have found I put better with your putter now that I have had some time with it. I remember rolling 25 footers in the store and everyone around was gawking wondering how I could do it consistently. It just felt weird in a good way, natural for me and my style. I want to try the rose putter next.
