Stem cell injections hand wrist arthritis

New strategy is having some effect. You all can read about what I've done, not going to restate, but I attended a webinar about osteoarthritis and one of the promising paths for help is maintaining a very high level of hydration. This has a good effect. Not sure if it's because of the axiom "solution to pollution is dilution" where you're diluting the pain response by taking in big volumes of water but it's akin to that.

Still, I'm leaning heavily now toward finding a surgeon who has what I would consider the best track record and technique for chopping me up and using parts of me for spare parts in end running the arthritic areas.

Found a surgeon and had my second visit today, took X-rays. Dr has been in practice 25 years with many many (approaching 1000) of this LRTI surgery (look it up if you're inclined). He expressed lots of optimism but not without pain and a very long recovery period--likely almost a year before I could play golf again. I'm going to schedule the surgery and I discovered why pretty much none of the other things I was trying had much of a chance of success---the Xray showed no joint space remaining, what the Dr. called: "the worst case of arthritis in this joint I have ever seen." Pretty sure that's bad, there's no badge of courage for this kind of hurt.

In the end the stem cell injections did not work.  PRP did not work.  Prolotherapy did not work.  Oxygen injections did not work.  Glucosamine or MSM did not work.  Hand therapy did not work.  And on and on and on.  My homemade ibuprofen gel worked early and wonderfully but stopped after 2x.  Body just finds a way to get the pain back up there, very fast diminishing returns.  Acupuncture and acupressure, neither worked.  Surgery has a fairly good 80% chance of improvement but the kicker is that the recovery is close to 2 years.  More for older folks..

Sorry, Juliette. I have chronic wrist pain, too much computer mousing in the 90's. Can you play at all? Have you tried vibration dampening products? Recoils with Smacwrap, bionic glove, softer ball?

Thank you all for your kind and sharp (PRP) responses.

The pain that debilitates me increased as I take the club away and it’s diffused-but mostly at the base of the thumb/wrist.  So club or shaft or ball adaptations don’t work as the pain has occurred before any of those options could kick in.

I can’t make any swing-even a chip shot- without pain and when the pain is strong I basically let go of the club with results that you’d imagine.  Won’t dwell on my woes, many in this world are so much worse off and I’m super grateful for the opportunities golfing has given me.  I never accept the disastrous results even though they’re embarrassing and out of my control.

Very sorry to hear that nothing gave you relief that everyone hoped you would find.  Looks like surgery might be the last resort option.  Very happy on my end to know you are not some "doe-eyed teenager", when looking for the proper surgeon & technique.  Being an x-ray/CT tech for 35+ years I can visualize that film.  Just thinking of it makes both thumbs hurt.  They are my worst joints.  Once again I want to thank you for documenting your journey.  The June 28th post about the hydration really caught my attention.  I have had urologists tell me that if I ever get a kidney stone that I have to go to Mayo Clinic because it should not happen due to my normal fluid intake.  I think one reason I did not go out for much high school sports was because of all the wind sprints I had to go for hitting the water bottles.

Yesterday was my last doctors appointment.  Routine has been 600mg ibuprofen in the am & again in the pm.  All labs are fine, but going to try some experimentation.  Going to try resveratrol along with the ibuprofen.  The daily ibuprofen of 1200mg will go to 800mg along with 600mg of the resveratrol.  After 2 months, if things seem to be going OK....my next labs would be 3 months into it.  There are some side effects I have to be on the watch for due to NAISDS and resveratrol.  If I go back to the old routine, I can wait another 2-3 months before the next check.  My hands stay plenty active during the winter, so it will make for a good test before golf season gets going.  Thought for other readers of this post that it might not hurt to put this in.

Juliette91 best wishes, prayers, etc. with the surgery & recovery.  Hope to hear you are at least 80% better.

Thank you so much for the well wishes but I've decided not to have the surgery, and instead just b**** and moan about this as I curse my ridiculously wayward shots or drop the club mid swing due to the pain.  Not being facetious, just do not want to lose a year of my life (some people on med forums say it was 2 years for them) without much use of my right hand.
