Is a vintage Ping anser, still relevant and effective?

On a whim, I just bought a vintage Ping Anser, from Morton's Golf. Now, I'm thinking I probably just wasted $110.

 

Is that model still effective, compared to today's blade putters?

That putter is an awesome deal at 110 bucks in my humble opinion.

 

Although there is absolutely nothing vintage about it in any sense of that word.

 

Do, please report back how it goes! Hopefully you're draining putts like your life depends on it.

I have an old Anser 3 I am going to give a try to again. I put a new Ping grip on it and a lot of lead tape on the sole. It feels really good so I will give it a go. I don't think my putting can get much worse.

I had an older Anser come in to have the face milled, a few years ago. You can imagine that even though it was light when it came in, taking .015" off did nothing to ADD weight, right? I rolled it on the fitting mat before the customer came to pick it up and made 14 out of 16 twelve-foot putts. I'll be the first to admit that it was NOT the skill of the man rolling the putts.....but at the same time, it is seldom a piece of equipment makes a HUGE difference.

Long story short...........if it puts the ball in the hole, roll it until it does not work any longer. Karsten and his team did a fantastic job in their design and it works today, just as well as it did back when it was new.

I believe at the beginning Karsten was a one man show, unless you count his wife Louise who gave him the Answer name, which was shortened to Anser to fit on the putter head weight bump. Took a while before he had a team.

I am using a 2012 USA Series Anser in 2024! With great results
