What do you think...Srixon Z945 vs Mizuno MP18 MMC

There are a lot of rounds represented here by WRX's and I am curious if you think these two will have complete different attributes or play somewhat like one another.

I am very happy with my MMC shafted with Recoil 95 F4 but do wonder if a little heavier shaft might bring a little consistency? The Recoil has saved my elbows and feels great.

I have the opportunity to grab a mint set of Z945's with Recoil 110 F4 cheap. It would be a very economical way to try out the heavier Recoil but I do worry about the swing demands of the Z945.

FWIW, I am an 8 HC and would say iron play is decent in that I hit close to the middle of the face pretty consistently...only wish I could say that about putting even one day in my life :-)

Thoughts and comments about my chances for success with the Z and/or overall thoughts about the MMC head vs the Z head would be appreciated!

Thank you

FWIW: Driver SS now averages around 103 on monitor. My miss with all clubs is going to be either right or left :-), but normal ball flight is a baby draw with my irons. My miss on the face is more likely heal vs toe and thin vs fat.

I’m only guessing here but I would be surprised if there was a discernible difference between the 2 irons you mention

I play the MMC, and two of my golf buddies play the 765s, and they are by far the more similar iron than the 9 series. 9 series is GI, whereas the MMC fall into the Player's iron category.

I had a chance to buy buy some new Z945s (with KBS Tour 120) that had been sitting in my friend's store.....for a while. I've only played a true blade once - MP14s - and that was in the previous century. But, the price was right and I thought the blade lengths of the Z945s looked very playable. Having tungsten in the longer irons was also a bonus.

I've only had the irons a few weeks, but I find these clubs are easy (and fun) to hit. I wasn't sure if I'd like the V sole, but it is my favorite feature. The V sole fits me perfectly; the club never digs and I get the prettiest, squarest divots I've produced in years. Obviously, the length and lie also fit me well. After years of poor iron play, I am finally excited to pull an iron from the bag with the confidence I can hit the shot I'm planning. These irons bring a smile to my face when I play and provide an enjoyment factor I didn't expect.

9 series is a blade, definetly not GI. SC is a players iron, MMC is more of a players distance iron IMO.

I had 945s, for a blade they are one of the more forgiving ones out there. A lot of this can probably be attributed to the V sole, which I did not get along with very well.

I have owned both.

In terms of blade length, they are similar. 945 top line is a bit thinner.

Although the 945 is forgiving for a blade, the mmc is a lot more forgiving as far as heel toe goes.

MMC is definitely not GI. It's kind of a category bender. Maybe modern players cavity is a good description. Closet comparison is maybe ap2 but with stronger lofts, or maybe apex pro.

The sole grind and turf interaction are very different between the two.

If you are an MMC player, I would doubt that the 945 would work as gamers. I knew after a couple of range sessions that the blades weren't for me longterm

Nonetheless, I say if you got a good deal on the 945 and you want to try the shafts, just go for it. It's probably the most economical way to experiment with shafts you are interested in anyway. Assuming they are in half decent condition, you can mess around with the 945 for a little bit and it will be a quick flip on BST. You can probably get all or nearly all of you money back.

Great post providing a lot of what I was looking for. I do not doubt that you may be spot on. I would like to see either the head or the shaft make a contribution to my bag but if not I will have learned without too steep of a price (less than 400).

PS: They look to be super in shape... I am guessing less than 20 rounds. Grips and shafts look almost new. If not me they will be a great set for someone.

Thank you for your time and solid comments!!
