Hogan fan owns one. Hopefully he will reply. I wonder if they are woth the price?

Guess I'd better since I've had a couple of PM's on it. I have one and it's an interesting toy, but unfortunately, that's about it from my perspective. Here's what I've noticed about it:

I originally bought it early last season after reading Tour Tempo and it seemed like a good idea (the watch) because they based their calculations on the tour tempo 3:1 ratio. That however, is part of the problem. Since Tour Tempo based their theory on counting frames from cameras shooting at only 30 frames/sec, there's a large margin for error in the data (one frame count of variance in a total of 7 or 8 is a lot!). The Titleist Performance Institute has done much more precise measurements and they found the average ratio of tour pro's to be more like 3.7:1 (by memory - they do have an article on their site with the information). So it seems the entire Tour Tempo premise might be a bit off. So the watches "ideal" ratio (which reads as a percentage) is supposed to be 25%.

Also, I have a Swing Speed radar with tempo and my tempo times on the SS radar are always about .2 to .3 sec. less than the watch. So using the watch just made my swing way too quick because I was trying to match up the 24/8 or 21/7 total time. No matter how fast I swung, I couldn't get there. For me, typical watch readings end up at around 26.5-28% (tempo) and 1.4-1.44 (time). Backswing length varies quite a bit with club length. The estimated clubhead speed is actually not too bad. It is usually a few mph within the SS radar. Every once in a while I'll get a 9 or 10 mph difference though. I wear the watch all the time but haven't actually used it a in range session in a couple of months. And I don't use it to keep score so can't comment on anything about that.

A good camcorder is a much better investment if you're looking to improve your swing, IMO.

Wow, that is a lot of explanation but very informative. I read the tour tempo book and found it very interesting that the golf swing could be distilled into those three 3:1 ratios.

Then i brought it to the range and didn't get through 30 seconds before i put the recordings back in the bag and the book on the shelf. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I am sure it works for some but now i have a book called and cd called Tour Tempo for sale.

As for working on your tempo, i have found it is a total feel aspect. You know when you are feeling good/comfortable in your swing (hopefully a good shot is the result) which i believe is a golfer's best tempo.

What i am trying to say is, emulating someone like Ernie Els/Fred Couples maybe highly desirable but may not be practical at all. I believe trying to find one's own swing is the most important aspect of golf. Then you can play better because you aren't thinking about trying to swing a certain way, you are just swinging the best way you know how.

Now how does one get to their unique tempo is question you need to figure out for yourself. "Dig it out of the dirt."
