Austin Barton Creek Trip Suggestion

Doing a guys golf trip to Barton Creek...staying at the resort and planning to play all 4 course.

scheduled as such

Friday

Palmer Lakeside Morning and afternoon

Sat

Fazio - Foothills

Crenshaw -Cliffside

Sunday

Fazio -Canyons

Question...is there a course close to Palmer Lakeside....the guys would like to play a different course..

I would not waste my time with Lakeside. I was not very impressed when i played it and at the time it was not in the same condition as the Foothills and Canyons. If you do end up playing it i would play your second round at Falconhead for sure.

Thanks for all the suggestion..manged to get on The Hills signature for the afternoon round...

 

Now to figure out where to grab good BBQ...

When was that? It's been in great shape this spring. They punched Lakeside on June 10 / 11, so I would wait two weeks for the greens to recover.

For BBQ when you are out by Lakeside, go to Opie's in Spicewood. It's one of the best in Central Texas. For closer to Barton Creek, I recommend Schmidt Family BBQ in Bee Cave at the Galleria.

That should be great weather. I suggest you come back to this thread in Sept and find out current conditions (or PM me).

Generally speaking, all four courses have been in very good condition this spring. They spent a fortune renovating three of the courses and the improvements are quite good. Canyons sand traps still need to be rebuilt but the rest of the course is much better.

will do....we do this kind of trip once a year..last year we played pinehurst 2 , 4, 8, tobacco road and pine needles...

Opies is so much better IMO. You cannot beat the tater tot casserole. Salt Lick is good, but it has grown so big and the wait times are ridiculous.

Both are good. My favorite is City Market in Luling.

I agree. Salt Lick's claim to fame is their outdoor tables. The Q is good, but not up to Opie's standard.

BC Lakeside is a solid course, very fun Palmer. Right beside it is Lakecliff CC but it’s probably hard to access since ACC manages it now. I’d try and get on Austin Golf Club, it’s also right beside Lakeside and is (my opinion) the best course in Texas.

 

If that doesn’t work out the Hills Signature is a fun course and goes with the theme of your other choices (spread out, cart required, residential resort courses).
