That may be so, but I wouldn't pay the prices to play those clubs either.

The native areas are not too bad to hit the ball out of. Plus you can ground your club and take practice swings. It only sucks when you're against one of those tufts of grass or in the middle of a tuft, but that doesn't happen too often.

I get everyone has their own price points and determines their own "value", but I'd hold off passing judgment if you've never played the course. It's an awesome test of golf.

It's in the same ballpark. PB I know is more expensive, closer to $600 I think. If you are paying for a one time experience it is worth it to a lot of people. If you live in the area and want to play a few times a year then I hope you have a better job than I do.

And that raises another question...what are you willing to pay for? In Ireland, I've read, and heard from friends who have played it, that Old Head is a (merely) good golf course in the most stunning setting imaginable. Does that make it worth significantly more to play than classics like Ballybunion or Lahinch? For me, I'd choose history and design, and see some cliffs when I'm off the golf course. The setting is certainly part of it, and Pinehurst #2 isn't terribly scenic, but to me #2 is a fascinating and challenging golf course.

And again, as long as people are willing to pay what it takes, its not overpriced, not in our market economy. I won't pay up to play it very often, its beyond my normal budget, but my personal finances don't define "overpriced."

#2 and all other great, expensive courses really boils down to how much do you value golf, golf course, architecture, history etc. If you love all of the above then you are likely to have no problem paying a good amount to play a course like Pebble, #2, etc every now and then. Just be glad we are able to play #2, most of the best golf courses in America will never be stepped foot on by golfers, even if they would pay such prices. Not so in the UK which is a whole other argument.

Little help. How do I decrease the font so it doesn’t seem like I’m screaming. I can’t find a way to do so.

If you are a fan of golf course architecture, it's a must play. Having played over 200 courses myself, playing #2 in May was very humbling. Because of the severity of greens, you need to very accurate with approaches; even chips and pitches. Get dialed in with the wedges, and you can go low. Most putts inside 10-15 feet are pretty tame. Once you get on the wrong side of a ridge or section, lag putting and/or chipping become very taxing. I actually thought the course was much prettier in person that on television, and there are some subtle elevation changes.

All that being said, if you just enjoy playing golf, love nice conditions, beautiful scenery, and wow factor, this is not your course. The price tag is very steep, and you have a caddie to compensate on top of that.
