Played some WXR-style golf today...

I experienced a brief moment of golf nirvana today. I took a few days off work to get some well-needed rest (first good step) and joined a buddy out at our former air force base local track. Very fun, long, open park-style course. On #9, a nice par 5, a small creek crosses the fairway. The creek starts at 280 out from the tee. I've been close before several times and there's some rough that stops one from rolling in pretty much. On my drive today I put a nice, smooth swing on the ball. Even my buddy said it looked effortless. It went fairly high and just stayed up in the sky... We drove up and I was shocked, but my ball was 15 yards past the creek. This is a par 5 and I took my 5-wood out for the second shot, about 215 out from the flag. I rolled through the green to the back and birdied the hole, long first put was close. I had some intermittent good shots in the round, mixed with a few pretty bad shots. I've been really working on my golf muscles in the gym, stretching every day, maintaining the back, minding the swing changes our head pro put me through earlier this year. It's starting to pay off. For a beat-up ole football player in his 50s I'm still managing to get longer off the tee.

Is the tee box elevated, we're the tees up, was there a helping wind, were the fairways dry and hard like a plane runway, are there rocks in the creek? Maybe you bounced off a sprinkler, and then a rock. >:)

As I was reading your post I thought to myself, some wet blanket is going to feel the need to weigh and and tell you it must not be true...didn't take long did it, lol.

Anyway, congrats! Those personal bests and evidence our work is paying off are what make it all worth it IMO ?

It's amazing how every once in a while those "smooth effortless" swings land past a normal good drive roll out position. If I could only bottle that magic up.

Please share if you can figure out how to repeat that. Well done!

That's a good question. Played again today and, once again, uncorked a couple of long drives. One was on a short par 4 - 330 yards. I was 30 yards from the flag, left rough. But, on several drives today I was off the toe, gear-effecting back to the left tree line.

Nice job. I remember once on a course I don't normally play, I hit a par 5 in two. There is a creek maybe 30yds short of the green and I was over 200yds out. I questioned whether I should lay up or go for it. I knew if I hit a nice three wood it would put me up on the green but if I missed I'd likely be in the water. I went for it and landed just short rolling through the green. Missed my birdie chance but was happy I reached it in two.
