Has anyone taken the driver out of there bag?

I typically only hit driver on par 4s longer than 350 yards and par 5s where I have a chance to get home in 2 if I hit two good shots and there is no trouble (particularly to the left). On my home course that means I hit driver only 7 holes and 3 wood on 7 holes (and possibly 5 wood on 2 of those holes, depending on my swing du jour). I could probably leave the driver in the bag altogether, but that's no fun :)

I don't necessarily remove it from the bag, but I very rarely hit driver. I just have major consistency issues. 3 wood goes anywhere from 230-255 depending on the day and conditions, which is typically plenty.

 

I know I need to figure out the issue, but in the mean time I am just looking to keep the ball in play.

I find myself leaving it in the bag more and more. I replace it with my hybrid and 3 wood more often here lately. I am working on trying to find the fairway more often, but the struggle is real.

I could get away with it, but my driver is built to be more forgiving than my three wood... I only hit not driver when I might run out of fairway.

I've been playing a 460cc 13* 42.75" "driver" for when I play courses in the 6200-6400 range (I don't get to play as much as I like, and the shorter shaft helps me find the center of the face more, and reduces the wildness of my misses on "poorer swings."

 

Having the full size 460 cc club head gives most margin on off-center hits as well.

 

my driver ss is 100-105 so not much penalty at shorter length and distance.

 

if there is trouble, then I'll play the 2nd longest club in my bag off of the tee, which is 4 wood at 16.5 and 41.75-42".
