2020 Ryder Cup Random Ticket Selection Emails Being Sent Out

Just like a lot of concerts, the ticket selling process is a mess. Everyone got their unique 'access code' and if you got in line before 11:00 am you were randomly assigned a spot in the line. I evidently got a fairly good spot and got to the front of the line at 9 minutes after it opened. Clicked on Fri, Sat, Sun for four tickets, sold out each day. Tried to buy two tickets for any of those days, sold out. Clicked on one ticket, sold out. Like some concert tickets, I just kept clicking on one ticket and eventually was able to get two tickets to Sunday into my cart. Went to check out and kept getting message 'General Processing Error: Technical support has been notified. If you continue to receive this error, please contact customer support'. Called technical support, "We are sorry but due to high volume of calls we are unable to assist, please call back later'. Went back to cart, then back to ticket page and after another 5 minutes of clicking on one ticket managed to add two more tickets, these ones for Saturday. Now my cart had two tickets for Sat and two for Sun. Went to check out, got same error message. Changed credit cards, same error message. Kept hitting process, and after another 15 minutes or so, the transaction finally went through. Took almost 45 minutes from when I got into line until I was able to finally check out.

Simply put, you needed to be a sponsor to get tickets. Otherwise, they let the third-party ticket reseller get most of them to re-sell for 3 to 5 times face value to allow the PGA of America to cut a fat hog in the ass.

Lost a ton of respect for the PGA of America today, and the Ryder Cup in general. Just a bunch of thieves.

Send out "lottery" announcements (after collecting 1,000's of email adresses) saying you won a chance to get tickets (not guaranteed at all as most people failed), drive up demand, and then send everyone back to your site to the secondary market where tickets are crazy expensive and the PGAOA collects lots of digital ad revenue from all the traffic. Sounds about right.
