Putter with more toe hang.

Just wondering if anyone has else tried going with a putter that had maximum toe hang to help correct a slicing/open type of putting stroke. I currently game a Scotty Cameron California Monterey and I am looking at a Newport 2.5. I putt fairly well with the Monterey, but I feel like I am struggling with putts inside 5-6 ft and I am thinking it's because of my open stroke. I've tried a Ghost Spider tour, and it seemed to exacerbate the problem.

I used to have a problem pulling putts and missing left so I went to a more toe hang putter - ping zing. It immediately helped. I've since worked hard on my putting and changed my putting stroke so I've gone back to an anser style but with a bit more hang and it's better. I think for pushing putts, you should look at something that closes the face faster or is easier to close the face, so something that has more face balance/less toe hang or possibly a thinner grip.

And this is what I thought, which is why I bought the ghost spider tour and it seemed to make the problem worse. That's why I was thinking of going the opposite direction.

I also have the ping man putter grips on my putters. So already a thin grip.

It sounds like it may be the putter issue rather than a putter issue, the putter being the operator.

Just the opposite of what you think, if your having trouble with open face at impact on short putts you DO want more toe hang not less. If you like the Monterey putter they do have a flow neck version with more toe hang. Plumber neck version is 4:00 flow neck is 5:00 toe hang

I putt with flow neck putters for the same reason your are talking about.

I'm certainly not ruling this out. But just looking at the possibility that the arrow is the problem and not the Indian. Because putting outside of 6-8 ft is generally solid.

I think I'm going to look at some flow neck putters at lunch tomorrow. See if that's something worth experimenting on.

I also putt left hand low, if that changes any suggestion.

I have a putter with max toe hang (6:00), was still slicing (and pulling) putts, added bonus lead tape to the toe, and that straightened stuff up. I think it was the heavier rather than the location per se, but the point is I did do what you asked and it did work.

James LOL you might want to post a pic of your putter because if they look at your signature many will not know what a Macgregor Jackie Pung putter is. LOL again I can see someone looking at your signature and saying "WTF is a Macgregor Jackie Pung putter?" Hey to stand up for those you have to be either an old fart like me or a younger guy like James that is into classic clubs

Thanks for the reply. I ended up getting a Scotty Cameron Newport 2.5 to try out. Just waiting for it to get here so I can trim it down to my length and mess around with it. Hopefully my putting will turn around.
