Ping G410 vs Mavrik Max

I have been playing the G410 plus 10.5 with an even flow red shaft for awhile. Forgiving driver with descent trajectory at 11.5 degrees. It does not have proper launch at 10.5. The driver is serviceable and accurate.

I took advantage of the 50% trade in bonus and traded in my backup G400max for a 10.5 degree Mavrik Max with a riptide 50 shaft. Played a round earlier today. The biggest difference between the G410 plus, the G400max and the Mavrik Max is forgiveness and superior spin characteristics. Now I have just said a lot because Ping has had “forgiveness” locked up forever. Now it would be different if Callaway made a driver that was forgiving but was overly spinny, but this driver flies on near perfect trajectory with better accuracy than either Ping. The Mavrik is markedly longer than either Ping off of the tee. It wants to go straight, but it can easily be worked either way.

It took Callaway their whole existence, but they have finally passed Ping by. Of course, this is My opinion.

Interesting comments. On Friday I only tested the Mavrik 5W Max in a demo day at my home club. It was great. I didn’t try to test the driver because I got 2 drivers recently, a Ping G400 STF and a Rogue Draw over the last weekend.

By the time I got the Ping (4 months ago) I tested all the G410 and the G400 Max. Best performing was the SFT so I decided to go with the G400 as it was a better deal. I’ve been very happy with that club as finally the dreadful slice is gone.

On the other hand, the Rogue was in the bargain bin, ex-demo, so I grabbed and played a practice round together with the G400 SFT, it performed very well, 10 to 20m longer than the Ping and straight, at the end, I bought it.

Yesterday, the Rogue was in the bag delivering amazing shots.

I understand the Mavrik is even superior to the Rogue and definitely I’ll have a hit soon.

Ping certainly got the formula right with the G400/G410 drivers however I think they’ve got their work cut out for them moving forward. All the new offerings from Cobra, TM, Callaway and Mizuno are good in their own rights. I think Callaway and Ping drivers are the most playable drivers for the masses. They spin the right amount, have great ball speed across the face and look good.

Ping never went with movable weights until now. They claimed that movable weights sacrificed MOI. I found the Rogue to be much more forgiving than the Epic or Epic Flash. I would even say Ping like. The Mavrik Max is really way past the the Rogue.

Ping G410 is the second highest driver Ping has ever made. The 400 Max takes the title. Fit with the right head shaft combo, 410 is hard to beat?! OP, btw the shafts you are demoing are 2 quite diff. shafts, so the testing may be skewed?! Maybe your 410 needs a new/diff. shaft?

I have tried the G410 with Evenflow blue 55 & 65, Tensei orange and Ping TFC in addition to the Max carry. The head does not launch like the Mavrik Max. I did not hit the Callaway before I purchased it. Off of the rack, with the Riptide, trajectory and spin window is right on. True, you can fiddle around with the G410 and get the numbers, but the Cally is better technology and it will definitely be more forgiving for just about everyone. Whatever they did to the face seems to work. I hit some horrendous shots that ended up in the fairway. I always thought that the G400max was the best combo of distance and forgiveness, the MMax is just on another level.

My experience was not similar - the Mavrik Max could not touch my G400Max in terms of overall distance/accuracy. The fitter played with a bunch of different shafts but never really even got all that close to the Ping (which he suspected from the outset when he saw the G400 Max numbers).
