Why not use the gov't site of the country fighting the pandemic - as added above - or at least use an in country news source: Coronavirus - Live Updates & News on Coronavirus in Ireland - Independent.ieThey are hoping to have a exit strategy plan in May, to say nothing of actually starting it. Be great if folks travel plans can come off, but speaking of plans, hope isn't one.

We are UK based but were planning to visit family in SW Ireland this summer. Having spoken to them they echo what others have said, August at the earliest for things to even be relatively back to normal and even then probably limits on international travel.

The membership fees question is an interesting one, we played Portstewart last year over the Open weekend. Single round was £175, ($220) full adult membership for the YEAR is currently £975 ($1200) which is ridiculously low for a course of that calibre. Note that includes unlimited golf on all 3 of the Links courses they have on-site, plus a 50% discount on weekdays at Portrush and others. Feels like an unsustainable business model if the visitor income is going to drop substantially for 2 years.

As for golf: The latest as of this week, per our club, the next checkpoint is 1st weekend or 2nd week of May. The current plan, if the restrictions are relaxed, will be members only with no outside/visitor play. This seems to be the plan across Ireland.

 

I travel there quarterly and all trips have been cancelled...So I don't get to go even if relaxed. :(

Makes sense, thanks for the update. Could even start with two-balls only to ease everyone back into it, once the official guidelines allow certain activities.

Trying to manage tourist golfer operations (as we've known them to this point) within any restrictions at the popular clubs seems a non-starter, with a bunch of foursomes + some caddies.
