Odyssey Stroke Lab .. how to remove counterweight from butt end

I've done it with light heat and some delicacy with a pair of pliers to pull the plug out when it's ready.

Yea. Nothing crazy. Heat gun for sure. Wouldn't use a torch on graphite directly. Should work out just fine.

? got my grip replaced ... just wanted to share this here

After removing the stock Odyssey grip a seen the 30g brass counterweight in the butt end of shaft. The weight has a small hole in the center so i decided i was going to start a small screw in the center of the weight to give me something to hold onto with needle nose pliers and then heat it slowly with a heat gun till it slid out

To my surprise when i started to screw in the small screw into center of the weight the weight started turning and i was able to pull it right out with no heat at all.

My Odyssey grip was 75g and the weight in shaft was 30g ... i replaced with a Super Stroke Traxion Pistol GT 1.0 counter core grip (83g) and added the 25g counter core weight that slides down into top of grip to bring total weight of grip/counter weight to 108g ... stock weight was 105g

I used the screw method as well but still needed a bit of heat to free it up.

Also, I thought I was going crazy when I was putting with it before I pulled the weight because I could feel a vibration when I hit the ball. When I pulled the weight out a 4” long flat strip of epoxy extended from the weight down the shaft. It was like a popsicle stick that must have been hitting the side of the shaft. Glad that was resolved

Hi, Don't be nervous with this! Piece if cake. Very little heat needed. I used a heat gun with max. temperature 600deg C. Removed grip, Removed 2" of grip tape from the butt end (just gives something secure to hold while working) The screw placed in the end of the weight is a very good idea as you need to pull and not twist. Applied even heat for only about 15 to 20 seconds. Pulled the screw with pliers and the Brass 'Bullet' came out clean as a whistle with no epoxy left in the shaft. Used Brampton Pro Fix 5/10 quick cure epoxy to glue the weight back in (the weight is quite a loose fit so if you use a more 'liquid' (for want of a better term) epoxy then allow to dry inverted so it doesn't run down the inside of the shaft.

Just a note: My Stroke Lab Putter was purchased at: 34" with Odyssey Oversize Grip, the Brass Weight was 50grams and was a fraction under 1 3/4" long.

If I have repeated anything covered in other posts I apologise, Hope this helps somebody

Are the counterweights in the butt end of the Stroke Lab putters all the same weight no matter what length?  Or, for example, does the 35" of a given design have a 40g, then 34" have 30g, and a 33" have a 20g?  Just curious if anyone has pulled the plug weight on a 33" or 34" version.  Thanks!
