Forum For Senior Golfers

You have sections for Ladies and Juniors. Why don't you have one for Seniors? Not meaning to cast aspersions on any group, but you must realize that Seniors converse and communicate in a different manner, as it were, than younger people. I'm a Senior, and I can see that Seniors, for the most part, are reluctant to post on this forum. It is a shame, because there is a great abundance of wisdom and knowledge as well as talent amongst the Senior Golfers. Remember also, if the Good Lord sees fit.....You will all get there in due time. This is not a frivolous query, I'm just curious. Perhaps you have a reason.

We tried it and it did not go over well. The feedback received by the "seniors" was more along the lines of they are young at heart in terms of equipment. The other section is fitness and that is covered quite well. We will create any forum where there is enough interest or need. Can we get some examples of senior specific topics that are currently covered by existing forums or anyone willing to be an advocate for it?

We have a group for seniors called LateBoomers, which currently consists of 2 members. If we can get 15 or 20 into that group, that would be a good indication of interest.

I'm in my 50s. Seems like most of the members of this forum hit it 300 yards and 170 yard 7-irons. I'm not close to either. I am currently an 8.9 HI (we'll see how that holds up come spring now that winter has arrived, LOL).

I don't play the back tees, because hitting a fairway wood on approaches is no fun. Sometimes I get the sense that if I don't play blades, hit from the back tees, drive it 300 yards, aren't built like TW, etc., I'm not a real golfer. I find that a bit...off-putting.

I practice, I work out a little (mostly stretching and walking), but I don't seem to be the same caliber of golfer as the vast majority of members on this forum.

Hey, I'm just a guy who loves to play golf. What more need be said?

How about the health issue related to golf and age?
I'm pretty certain there is a boat load of topics for ths concern, and it would be important to share these because, you know, everyone would eventually be on this road if they're lucky enough.

You have to understand this 50's to 60's generation holds the most spendable asset in this country.
Do yo really think the teens have their own ability to the golf equipments, green fees and club membership? If you're starting off in life, you wouldn't have the extra money for the $500 driver or putter if you don't have to spend additional for today's equipment.

Senior would be important to be included ( have their own section ) in the golf forum.
Let me ask you this, what's the majority of the current age for the golfers you see on the golf course?
Just my opinion.

GX: Thank you for the prompt reply. OK Seniors, speak out. I for one would go immediately to the Senior Forum each time I log on. I find Golfwrx to be one of the BEST Golf forums around. I just felt that this addition would enhance an already good forum. I will continue to read and post, regardless of the outcome. Thank you, Rony - Long Island, NY

P.S.: Perhaps if you mention this in "General" which gets more views, you could see if there is any real support. ???

I've added a poll and will move to the general section in case some miss it.

As for health and swing issues, the Swing forum has some of the best golf fitness experts in the country that post there. Also, instructors who are no strangers to that segments needs.

A separate women's section was created because of possible intimidation factors that were relayed by people in that field when created.

We will create based upon community need.

Again,

This is something that we tried in the past and I hope there is enough interest to create one. From talking with past Senior members, they felt it more of a discrimination to be segregated than an honor. That is why it was not done. We would actively seek members to moderate the forum as well.

I think it is a good idea. After a 17 year layoff and now being a senior there are just things my body
will not do that it did in the past.

I'm in favor of it, in that it would probably encourage more of the seniors at GolfWRX to post more often, and it would be interesting to see what the topics would be like. I'm betting it would be interesting and insightful not only for the seniors, but for the younger members as well. Seniors are the only group here who can score their age...I should be so lucky.

Edit: Ryan, I'm already in the LeftyBoomer group...can we be in more than one group? What's the starting age to be in the LateBoomer group? I'm 55, and if that qualifies, I would like to join it as well.

Duffer's is what the senior leagues in my area are called. Several different clubs are involved in outings. I am close to 50. But I had rather beat the young guns than talk about my two cancer's, diabete's and arthritis. It's fun to blow it past the 25 to 35 age group at my club. Hit more greens, chip better and putt better. Plus I can play a ton of different shots and they all are just bomb and gouge.

I agree with you Mac, I may be perched at the top of the rock and have attained the ability to hit the ball farther than I can see but the only thing old about me is my underwear, the only time I resemble a duffer is when I forget to pick my feet up high enough walking up the stairs, I haven't used citizen in a sentence in 40 years, and seasoned is something I do to the food I cook for dinner. I also gave up being in a hurry years ago when I discovered the only thing I accomplished was raising my blood pressure.

Not me GX.....I would take it as an honor. Remember, a lot of the Senior Golfers out there are former scratch players who simply resort to different tactics now that they have lost some length and a few points off of their index. At my club we have a Men's Club, a Men's Senior Club, and a Ladie's Club. The one with the best matches is without question the Men's Senior Club. These guys are good, funny, and an absolute joy to play and compete with. I watched the Father/Son tournament in Orlando today. Lot of Senior Golfers out there. Jack, Arnie, and Lee, to mention a few. Wish I was as consistent as those three.

I don't ride a cart, I walk. When they ask me at the golf course if I would like a cart, I say I'm not old enough. However, I am lucky that I can walk, and I know for some that is not possible.
