3-wood usage question

I wonder sometimes if I get the most out of my 4 wedges and if a backup 'short' driver might be a better use of the 14th club. Placement off the tee is critical for me to score well, but so is knocking it close with a wedge. I think if I could practice more I'd be able to go to 3 wedges but I don't feel I can create three swing lengths, only a full and a half.

2-4 times as 2nd shot on par 5 and 2x max off the tee. Worthwhile if you're not confident with driver or you play a shorter course. Really depends on course setup. I've been thinking about setting up my driver to encourage fades and 3 wood to got draws off the tee. Was watching Gary Woodland (I am much shorter) but the concept makes sense. I'm getting less interested in working a driver both ways and thinking it's a better strategy that when I must drive right to left, have a club better suited for that purpose.

Easier experiment might be to get a 13.5* fairway and see if you like a strong 3/2 wood as an option off the tee. Less modification to your current setup. I would go for two drivers only after you tried a lower lofted 3 wood first.
