well after the event with the emotional reaction of immediacy having died down but I still feel the same about the broadcast. I'm grateful we had live golf to watch and it should go without saying that it was for a very good cause, but they overproduced the telecast with too many voices and the interjection of unnecessary guests. There were 6 people to talk about 4 dudes playing golf ...and all 4 of the players were mic'd up!

I think less is more for golf broadcasts and wish more would heed the advice Peter Alliss got from Henry Longhurst when he started broadcasting. Longhurst told him, "We are caption writers in a picture business and if you can't improve the images being shown on the screen, Keep Your Mouth Shut!"

Give us some inside Seminole info for the majority of the audience who've never been there, show us the overview of the hole about to be played and let it ride with the on course reporters and players narrating the day. I don't need to hear the expert tell us how a player is now dead from an inaccurate shot or how a a putt will break and certainly don't need to hear them talking over each other because they have too many microphones fighting for air time. Inevitably they'll get up & down 90% of the time, we'll see how the putt breaks when the hit it and don't be so afraid of silence in a broadcast. I appreciate Bill Murray just fine but it was cringe worthy television because you don't know what he's going to do or say and Tirico seemed like he was looking for the backdoor escape as soon as the interview started. Unnecessary. Trump, while unquestionably a huge proponent of the game, was unnecessary too but because it was politically polarizing and therefore soured some viewers. Also, since it was an NBC broadcast, they never miss an opportunity to jam in an extra commercial ...or 10.

I sure hope this tomorrow's producers listened to the critiques (good and bad) of last weekends and adjust accordingly but regardless, I'll be watching live or from the DVR.
