Wedge-like 9 iron

I’m a bit fan of the classic 588 tour action wedges and have 56,51 and 47. I would like to have something similar for my 9 iron, around 42.

I have researched and seen SCOR 42 and that Ben Hogan’s FT 15 42 is kind of based on the Scor after they closed. Are these similar to 588?

has any of the Cleveland’s 9 irons been similar to 588 wedges? I know 588mb or cg1 but maybe not that similar?

any tips and ideas on wedge like 9 iron similar to 588 wedges?

Not sure why you wouldn't just go with a blade 9i that blends as close as possible to your set. It's one of the perks of blended sets.

588 mb are going to be closest to the 588 wedges since they are from the same line. Srixon makes most of cleavlands players irons so they would probably be the place to look for a 9 iron similar to wedges

I haven't played a Cleveland wedge in 20+ years, but I can tell you the SCOR wedges work very well to blend with irons and play like irons. I think compared to the 588 you'll find them to be more compact and less round, with a softer feel, and plenty of control with the right shaft for you. And yes, the TK15 wedges are very similar because Terry Koehler, the same person behind SCOR, was the person who brought Hogan back and launched those wedges and the Fort Worth irons. His vision failed as a viable business, but I think his golf club ideas are valid. The TK15 wedges are different metal and construction than SCOR and my understanding is that they will feel softer than SCOR wedges and will likely be less durable as a result. FWIW, Terry Koehler is launching a new company, Edison, but I don't think he's going down to 9-iron replacement lofts on those.

I played SCOR clubs as PW replacement in my MP32 set, and have the 51 and 55. At the time I did it because my PW had much more wear than my other irons, but I wound up liking the look of the SCOR wedge better as well. I just picked up some NOS 42 and 46 heads to blend with MP-18 MMC's (and a 49 to bend to 50 since the 50 wasn't available). I like the foregiveness of the MMC for mid and long irons, but I don't like how the short irons behave. Basically I'm doing it a really cheap experiment vs the cost of buying MP blade short irons and wedge.

Thanks a lot for the great answer. Seems like SCOR wedges could be a good idea. Out of curiosity, what do you mean with NOS 42 and 46? Is that a brand or am I missing something?

Has anyone tried 588 mb irons and 588 wedges and could compare the two?

Thanks for the input. Unfortunately pretty expensive shipping to Sweden where I live on that particular one, but I will for sure keep an eye on it.

NOS = New Old Stock..as in a a never been hit item of an older model.

@f.lindeloew Yes, this is what I meant. There might still be some out there. Odds are better for finding TK15 wedges than SCORs, mainly because the TK15 Hogan concept was closer to a mainstream offering.
