What made you take up the game?

How did all the juniors on here decided to take up this great game?

 

I was given a set of Howson clubs, yes i have upgraded now!, for Xmas one year and decided to give it a go. I hacked my way round 1st time and have been hooked ever since.

 

Also where do i get my Junior Boomers Tag?

BBC's Sunday night coverage of the 1986 Masters when I was 11.

Then my dad got me a well-worn set of Mizuno TP-9s that had been cut down for me in time for the school holidays and the rest is history...

Well, sadly it's not. But I carried on playing anyway.

I'm not sure if I qualify as a 'junior' at my age. But I still mess about with Star Wars figures... Do I Qualify?

I started playing when I went to watch the Irish Open in 2000.
Just loved it.

Was given an old set of Ping Eye 2's. Very nice clubs actually

I actually have a cool story:

Okay, around 2 years ago my brother and I were having a sleepover at a cousin's house. He had a coupon to Blockbuster for a video game rent one, get one free.

We always play sports games, and so we got a hockey game, and then couldn't decide on the other one. We saw Tiger Woods 2005, and we decided that we will try it out.

So, after playing that game, by coincidence, we had to go and pick up another one of my cousins (who's an avid golfer) from the driving range. I tried hitting a few shots, and I hit them pretty good, and then I was hooked!

I was always after my parents to get me a golf set so I could start out.

I learned all the rules and the terms and everything by playing Tiger Woods '05.

And the rest is history.


Now, 2 years later, I am a 0.8 handicap.

I liked this chick who was an avid golfer. She was in all of my classes. Everyday she would talk about golf after class with my history teacher (who was the girls golf coach). I got jealous so one day after school I picked up one of my dad's golf clubs... (Also an avid golfer. He tried to teach me golf when I was 5, but I thought it was boring. So I actually had a little understanding of the golf swing, like keep your left arm straight, lol.)... and started to swing around with some practice balls in the backyard. I really started to get into it. I was frustrated I couldn't get the ball up in the air, but I kept trying. Long story short, my dad came home and showed me how to swing it, got the ball up in the air, started to like the game ever since.

I had emphasis on had a friend who gave me clubs when I was 16 and made me start playing he was my best friend. He got me into this game that I love more than anything else I am now 23. His name "cripplecreekpro" steve sigmon. He was a good guy at one point I wish I knew what went wrong because man I used to love driving all night to go play some where together. It honestly makes me so sad now to think all the things he did to so many people and to my self and I wish that the reason I got into the game could be remembered in a better light.

I always thought golf was for privileged white folks (and Tiger) and found it quite boring. Soccer was my sport of choice. Long story short, tore my right acl, had reconstructive surgery and was never the same soccer player again. The knee was never stable enough to play any type of contact sport. So I figured the knee cant really get hurt from golfing.

Now i'm a golf junkie, a WRX junkie, a club ho...you name it. I still watch the English Premier League and whatever golf in on tv.

Did you guys see that dude hit a 404 yd drive in the LD contest that was on tv today? sick.

not a Junior but I took up golf at 44 years of age....after a lifetime of martial arts, football, hiking, canoeing, and hunting. Got asked to play all the time but I never did....until I got coerced into rounding out the fourth man for a charity fund raiser and was told, "Your shot doesnt matter as it is a BEST BALL event."

I was hooked ever since but too bad my score is still in the nosebleed section above 100 but it is slowly coming down after this past 7 months.
