Ping Colour Chart

Hey Gang, a question please....

Looking at the Ping Colour Chart, it looks like they reccomend that I be a red or an orange (1 degree or 2 degree flat).... I'm a pretty short guy.

With that in mind - is it as simple as taking my non Ping Clubs to my local golf store and paying them to bend them to 1 or 2 degrees ?

Presuming also that this would be a more affordable way then going for a full custom fitting.

I'd love to hear your feedback.

@MarkTheSark what make/model irons do you have right now? Some do not bend very well.

You should check the specs of your non Ping clubs to see if they match up to ping black dot color code. There isn’t a standard across manufacture’s version of standard. So theoretically you could need more or less bend in what you have. You should also note that the chart is a starting point. It is a static measure which can change during a dynamic fitting. From experience I fall right on the line between silver/maroon but fitting put me into white dot.

Seems to me your basing this on just a static fitting using Pings codes. If so that's a huge mistake. There are more factors involved in deciding what lie angle you should be playing.

The specs seem to be quite similar, obviously though - not perfect..... Just thinknig if there's a way to get me into a better fitting club, and save me a few bucks along the way.

Assuming the Hogan BH5 irons are spec they are actually 1/2 a degree to 1 degree more upright than standard PING lie angles.

The BH5s are also a cast club, which is less bendable than a forged club. If you wanted to do 2 degrees flat from Ping standard, you are looking at a 3 degree bend in the short irons. I'm not a professional club builder, but that could be a bit risky. Do some research and ask your fitter before making that change. If you are just looking to do a 1 degree flat from PING standard, thats mostly 1 degree in the long irons, 1.5 degrees in the mid irons, and 2 in the long irons from the standard BH5 specs. These smaller bends are probably okay to do.
